The painting has to do with the history of art though dingus. You learn the story through exposure to it, unless you literally are just "hurr look at da pretty pictures" and nothing else.

I don't care if somebody is inspired by anime but they got no place next to those line drawings and sources of inspiration wasn't the subject. Those drawings show a great amount of skill and how you can tell a lot a lot with simple means. While the animu is over polished and made with less skill. Not to mention stuff like image composition

I do see what he means, though. I've seen photos gone through filters that have a similar look to them as his train station piece. It's reminiscent.

Which pieces? I think he usually has strong colour. Maybe you are mistaking limits of printing technology at the time? Often they would print only one or maybe a couple colours because of limits in technology or to save money. So he would have to paint with very limited hues. I'm not super familiar with Leyendeckers work, so i dont have any examples, it's just something i've sometimes noticed when looking at his work. I think there are some problems with the one i originally replied to tho, like her skin for example, it's completely dead and boring, and the use of orange clues here and there comes off as a bit tacky and hastily done. But printing technology hadn't even crossed my mind, and it's obviously the reason why. Now i can appreciate his work way more.
