Post em now.

Rules:
-Do not rate or give critiques unless if the artist specifically requests it.
-If someone is RUDE tell them to not expect much from an hour's work.
-Posting WIP's, studies, "doodles", and random sketches are highly encouraged.
-The art must be fresh. Like you just drew it in the past hour.

This is a thread where people post whatever they just drew, mostly things you wont dare post anywhere else due to its low quality or because of its insignificance.

For amazing works of art please direct your attention to the generals.

Thank you and please bitch somewhere else.

Since it's hard for me to just draw freely, I'm trying a themed sort of thing. The idea here is that I'm sort of coming up with characters that would appear in a fighting game. I'm not fully designing them, just trying to picture characters and get myself drawing interesting shapes, maybe I could flesh out designs for some of them later. So I would really like feedback on these, as I think this will help me start thinking more creatively and push me to draw more interesting poses and such.

Thank you, anon. Showing the process is a little tricky, I like drawing all on one layer so usually I've erased the early stages by this point, as in the case of those drawings, but I have some wips saved from another thing I've been working on, so gimme a little bit and I'll put those together. I also did something slightly different with these because I was trying to go for a cleaner look but I think it translates still about the same.

White is very powerful anon, I suggest to use it on tints of pure white, otherwise it's overwhelming, change up your values and shift the mid value to the brighter parts, as well as contrast such as a dark value surrounding a mid tone will give it a much brighter value/highlight

okay so here's vaguely the process I go through. I added step one because I didn't actually save a wip of that, but a lot of times I go for defining a gestural line, then start filling in forms and correcting as I go. I didn't do as much construction on the doodles because like I said I wanted something cleaner, but I'm also challenging myself to draw more intuitively.

Oh no no, those wips are outdated, the face doesn't really look like that anymore, I did more painting and shading and such. I think the eye closest to the viewer would look better if it were lower, on the same line as the other eye. I would try the first eye and see how that looks before messing with that one though because that one might be totally fine.

I simply do not understand why you post here. Every time someone points out your issues you brush them off and say that's not the kind of feedback you want, because you just want someone to hold your hand and correct everything in your drawing for you. And when they DO, you STILL don't use anything from the redline they give you, you just shuffle things around on your own, still not actually fixing anything, still ending up with the same glaring structural and anatomical errors in your "finished" pics as anything else you draw. I can't imagine what you get from this other than some odd conformation bias that everyone is only angry with you out of envy, not the fact that you always act like you want help when you really don't. You are the worst kind of person, and you're never going to progress until you listen to someone and actually start learning.

Any advice on the last one?

>> No.2296092

>>2295974
That part of his comment isn't useful, the part about drawing something other than doe-eyed girls staring into space is. The other day I explained in as neutral language as possible what his underlying problem with structure is, and how to go about fixing it and he told me he'd rather just have people tell him what's wrong with each picture rather than learn how to make correct structure from the start. I've suggested he rely less on reference and do more quick sketches so his work looks less stiff. I can go to warosu and show you I gave him advice without mocking or aggressive language only for him to bite at me, and that's when I went from defending him to despising him. He doesn't actually want help he just wants attention.

>> No.2296097

>>2296092
And before you say it's his choice to get hand holding for each picture instead of learning to be independent, he only aggravates more people doing that, because he still doesn't make the changes they tell him to anyway. He posts the same tired, lifeless, boring women everyday, claiming he wants to improve, yet heeds neither suggestions to improve each picture nor all around as an artist. To top it off he gets short with everyone who gives him advice whether they heckle or not. It's the most annoying thing I've ever seen, it's Bones of Ruin all over again.

That's bull. I was totally civil to him when I gave him advice and I don't even care whether he improves or not, but when I took time out to give him the help he claimed to want, he treated me like I was just attacking him. After being confused for a while and being rebuffed in the same way next time I tried answering a question of his, I realized his head was too full of himself to take in any new knowledge. I no longer waste effort on him, but just this one last time I do want it said that Firez doesn't just get unwarranted hate for his art, his attitude and actions definitely draw anger onto him.

Its quite possible that he is a very self-centered person. He will not actively hurt people, but neither is he humble in nature
I've met a person like this face to face once. He only listen to advice from teachers and literally turned back from me when I want to help him. He appears to be very lacking in socializing skill
but what can I do? Grab his collar and punch him in the face? He didn't do anything wrong exactly

It's so true, and I wish someone had shown me why I should never have paid attention to him in the first place. I've basically resolved to never reply to him at all since it's always a waste of time. I broke my resolution this time because I had a point I wanted to make, not that he took it in, but now that I've expressed what I wanted to say, I think I can manage not to engage him anymore. It looks like you're focusing on the wrong details. You put effort into the teeth but neglect to define how the skull actually looks. They're flat, there's no depth, and you should try to make it more like the top left and bottom right where you're actually showing some construction. Don't freehand it, either construct or measure out distances better. Constantly look at the reference picture and try to see what you're doing wrong.

first i'd recommend getting used to drawing the skull from the front view and side view, just like how you do with the human figure. you need to learn the proportions. these are some i did at the end of last year when i was trying to learn the proportions before going into the harder stuff.

then i would recommend practicing the loomis head a bunch of times, since it's the basis for the skull and head. check out 'proko' on youtube for that. go through his videos on heads and do as many as you can for each video without putting in the details.

the fundamental of getting your lines right is wrapping your mind around the fact that things are three dimensional. either look at some 3d models of faces up close or take someones face and look at it from all these different angles and touch it with your hands and try to understand the fact that it continues after your vision. when you have grasped this, it becomes much more easier to imagine it in your own dark void of mind. then, you start drawing a vague, light shape. and build on it. little by little. remember to start with light and add with light. you can always make a darker line, but not make it lighter. try to never use erasers. they erase your mistakes which are the most important things to learn from. go through blocks of sketch paper. be fucking relentless. the only way you will learn to draw pretty women is if you draw a million ugly ones. do not fall into frustration, continue with a cool mind and keep your thoughts on the idea of progress.

You're symbol drawing bro. Those braids are the best example, they're nothing like that in the picture, you're just drawing what you think braids should look like. Same thing with the eyebrows. The proportions of her face are out of whack too - look at the position of her ear in relation to her eye. The outer corner of the right eye (from our perspective) should line up with the middle of her ear, not the top. Her jaw is also way too square.

Just take a good look at the reference picture. Draw lines on top of if you have to - bottom of the ear to the top of the right nostril, inner corner of the left eye to the left corner of her mouth. Measure things - her face is about three ears long, about two and a half wide. The distance between her nose and chin is about as long as her nose... and so on. You need to get the proper proportions and structure down first and then refine.

I need help. I'm in a weird position where I can do studies and paint things without being way off but I cannot express them with just lines. I cannot draw at all. For example, this study I was doing. The lines underneath are terrible and I honestly don't really understand the underlying anatomy off the top of my head despite pouring over anatomy books. When painting, I figure it out based on the angles and proportions of what I've started painting, so it sort of became this weird game of correcting my fucked up lines with paint. not that anon, but i like drawing hands. firstly, you're not really drawing hands. you're just drawing some weird poky-potato-tuber kind of things.

go look at your own hands(hands are the easiest things to get good at since you almost always have a closeby, poseable, live reference to rely on). draw them often; notice the proportions, where the skin stretches or where the bones come out.

a big part of drawing hands is your linework; because of the nature of how skin stretches over a hand, some lines will be thicker(read: darker) than others. if you can draw a human hand, drawing any kind of animal/robot/imaginary hand will become much easier.

PS values are an important part of hands

I'm trying to make the transition to color too, but honestly, something that would help is switching the image to black and white on occasion to measure your values. Right now, they are all over the place and I can barely make out a proper light source. It's the most confusing on that creature. Also, if you want ti to be green, you don't necessarily have to hop to green on the color wheel for green. Pick colors based on relationship and not necessarily the true color of what you want.
