I explained everything in my post before, but I guess you didn't look at it, you should read it though. You can look up either panels from comics or con sketches from nearly any pro comic artist - this one is Eddie Nunez, JJ Kirby uses borders a lot too, and see what I was talking about.

Dude, the viking's head is too small, the head he is holding is too small, his torso is too slim, he looks like he is awkwardly falling back, like he lost control of his balance because he was spooked by the decapitated head. He looks scared and surprised instead of angry.

Even though you fill your drawing with details, it's clear you are lacking some fundamental basic training, mostly evident by your wobbly line work.
I'd say you throw this away and go back and study simple forms and shapes, because your drawings look flat, and then study anatomy alongside figures and gestures, and then values, before you worry about painting.

Don't listen to that guy, he doesn't know what he is talking about. Look, you render your drawing in a way it might fool laymen about its real quality, and the truth is it isn't very good.

For starters his head is all wonky, it grows to his left side, his arm starts ok and shrinks all of a sudden after the elbow, his legs are tall as fuck, made even taller by the height of his belt... and then he is supposed to be walking, but everything indicates you started drawing him standing still (the static arm, his right leg too far right, the legs are symmetric until the knees, which are on the same height), and then when you got to the left knee you said "fuck it, I am not drawing another leg", and made him walking.
Also, you render the shadows like you were coloring with colored pencil.

I am guessing you made this from a picture? I'd suggest you go take a look at the fundamentals again and study all that.

I didn't see it sorry. I used mostly a single fairly normal brush I think? I've seen it in several sets with variations on it, and I used a version where I turned off the texture so it's nice and silky smooth. One of my favourites at the moment.

My computer that I paint on has ben having some problems connecting to the internet lately, but if it is working then I'll upload my brushes for you a bit later today.

For settings I always leave my brushes at 100% for both opacity and flow, and control everything with either pen pressure or by lowering the opacity of an entire layer if I want something very subtly glazed (more control this way I find). Lately I've been trying to paint a bit more opaquely (press harder with pen or use a brush without transfer). Seems to help me a bit with getting better shapes.

Me again. Here's a link to my brushset and then a screenshot showing how I set it up (with another mermaid painting I did yesterday with these brushes). Basically I have some brushes that are just titlecards and blank spaces, so that when you right click you have a nicely organized set. You need to make the brush thumbnails large and have 9 on each row for it to work though:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ttqwe9dq1pcqrc/ReducedBrushes.abr?dl=0

Actually I want to change some of the brushes in there, but it's mostly to my liking at the moment. You might hate it though, these are just the brushes that work for me and the way I like to paint. The one that I used for the dead mermaid wip was mostly the size 250 brush under "brushy".

The lighting scenario you have set up makes no sense really. No torch would light up that much. Flame is a very weak light source actually, and has a very fast fadeoff with distance. It also is very orange/yellow.

I find it strange that the sun is weaker in your image than a small torch. I would probably remove the sun from your image and keep it that sort of time of day when it's just ambient cool light like the purple you have in the sky. The have a combination of ambient sky light and then the torch which needs to be a lot more subtle in terms of its influence on other objects.

Her leg is also coming out of her torso. Like her pelvis would be literally inside of her rib cage.

What are the dudes in the bottom right doing? Are they necessary? They feel a bit cramped there at the moment with a couple tangents and then one with his face cut off in the middle of it.

Might also be nice to have some plants or grasses in the foreground coming up overlapping the rocks.

And what is she holding? It's not clear really, could be a phone or a cup or a watch or a compass or some other thing.

I don't think anyone's ever done a flamingo-themed bad guy, so I thought it'd be neat to take a crack at that. Given the helmet, I know it's not the most realistic, practical helmet to use, but I like the silhouette it makes a lot so I'm hard-pressed on how to improve that without losing the shape it has now. I'll probably just use cartoon license to show the helmet being taken off and on off-panel and give him a reasonable head when his helmet's off. I'll also have to adjust his height in relation to the other characters I have, as well as keep working on his armor (mainly the legs) to dial it back to a mid-17th century look.

>i only gave a simple and probably better proportion for the body
Definitely not. Like I said, the proportions you suggested in your redline don't match the intent of the style, or even the head which you left alone, and you didn't even actually do a good job of translating whatever reference you used. If someone does a bad redline people need to call it out so the original artist doesn't get confused, and since it's obviously not your drawing, it makes no sense to get defensive over it., and there's really no defending the redline you did. In this instance that guys draftsmanship was way cleaner than yours, despite him zigzagging his pencil, and it's plain to most everyone here. You gave no critique of substance, so it only looks to everyone like you just wanted to throw in 2 cents to seem important, because your advice was far from helpful or necessary. You accuse everyone of attacking you but in truth, you keep throwing yourself in the road, desperately seeking attention and validation. I hope you find some way of moving on from this sad state.

The thing is, he thinks it improves his work, but practically nobody else agrees his work is any the better. I still say the first guy's work was cleaner even with the "bad habit", and his hatching served to describe light and form much better, even though it technically breaks a rule most art teachers will get on your case for. In this case, him trying to use his own work to demonstrate how best to apply a technique when it appears he himself doesn't even know how to apply it well causes me and others to be dubious. I don't have any gripe with this dude, probably only spoken to him 3 times including this, he's never done any personal wrong to me, but I did want to say I feel he shouldn't be so hard-headed and aggressive, especially when I feel there's merit to the criticisms being leveled against him.

>why is hair so hard
Actually hair is pretty soft huehuehue

No but seriously hair is kinda difficult to handle. It helps to see how other artists handle it. There's a million different ways you can approach it, and it depends on your personal style, how you see hair, and what type of hair the person has. I think hair is great fun because it provides some wonderful opportunities for abstraction and design and stylization. I think hte important thing to get though is the overall "flow" of it right. Like the gesture and shape of it need to work. Whether you stylize it with hard edges like Leyendecker or soft edges like Sargent, or render each strand like Wyeth, every approach needs to capture the essence of the particular hair. Is it straight and silky? Is it frizzy? Is it greased back? In the case of your image it seems to be fairly flowing with a slight wave to it, but look at the thumbnail--the shapes don't flow well. Gravity affects hair a lot, think about how the strands clump and fall and flow over each other. I like to think of it almost like a waterfall that cascades down the head and over the shoulders. It shouldn't take any strange turns or kinks unless there is a reason for that (there is some form underneath giving it that structure).

Also worth mentioning that hair reacts with light a bit different than skin or regular matte surfaces. It's works through anisotropic reflections, which basically means each strand has a highlight and when you have thousands together that cumulative highlight move across the form sideways.
