Tools, Rules, and Resources
http://mrjakeparker.com/inktober

/ic/ edition:
1) Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).

2) Post it in this thread and quote your drawing from the previous day

3) Repeat

Official Rules:
1) Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).

2) Post it on your blog (or tumblr, instagram, twitter, facebook, flickr, Pinterest or just pin it on your wall.)

3) Hashtag it with #inktober

4) Repeat

Note: you can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. INKtober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.

I always have creative blanks when doing this kind of stuff, so I've been mostly drawing female faces. The thing with sketchbooks and inks is that I'm never patient enough to draw sometthing decent, so I usually draw roughly for 5 min or so and call it done.

6 days in and I already noticed what I need to improve on (patience)

I found that timing is pretty critical. Keeping the paper wet and going back over with your lightest color can give you good blending. Letting the layer dry before adding a darker color gives it a more cel-shaded look. Just keep playing - your stuff looks pretty solid

HEY
I know... I honestly fear if I don't adhere to certain features I will be venturing too far from the manga style, which is not even the case with people who draw manga for a living who can draw distinct faces, I'll try to do something different tomorrow, thanks anon.

My day 9s were done super haphazardly as doodles in class, and rough to the point where they're embarrassing to post here, but for the sake of continuity (and because I am presently drunk enough to feel no shame) here is one of several examples of my attempts.

It might sound pretentious to say I wanted to go for something Otto Dix like with a sort of chaotic feel, but rather than chaotic it just looks really bad and sloppy. I did try to tune it up digitally but it's not really inktober and was also mostly turd-polishing so I won't put that in the thread.

Winsor and Newton or Speedball for brush/pen work if you plan on incorporating some kind of watercolor. (It's waterproof)

Carbon Ink for loading up fountain pens/brush pens. The ink is super fine, so it won't clog up yo shit. And it's waterproof as well.

Pilot Ink jar is actually refilled with the calligraphy ink bottle on the left. Pilot Ink is not waterproof, but it's great for calligraphy or just doing simple ink drawings like I have for this months Inktober. It's super cheap, and extremely pigmented. The bottle on the left I got at a Japanese dollar store here in California. Its surprising how well quality the ink is for only a $1.50.

My recommendation is the Speedball though. It's waterproof, and pretty cheap for what I've seen it go for. (Usually $5 for a jar) and it's pretty easy to find in most arts and crafts shops.

>Traditional East Asian ink is solidified into inksticks. Usually, some water is applied onto the inkstone [...] before the bottom end of the inkstick is placed on the grinding surface and then gradually ground to produce the ink.
>More water is gradually added during the grinding process to increase the amount of ink produced, the excess flowing down into the reservoir of the inkstone where it will not evaporate as quickly as on the flat grinding surface, until enough ink has been produced for the purpose in question.

the one from today

>> No.2250105

Anon who lost their job here.

I'm bowing out, I just don't have the motivation anymore because of unemployment :( it's hard to keep this routine when my mind is elsewhere. I'll still a try to produce some art, but it won't be tied to an inktober schedule. Maybe next year.

You will feel far worse then, ans you know it. Keep your priorities on top, but if you have time to keep working on art don't make excuses, have fun with it, do something you will enjoy. Take it easy, you can overcome that situation, don't worry too much about the future and focus on what you can do now.

perfect for you.
Look for another job that is either
a) career driven (degree, certification, trade)
b) or just another job to turn the lights on
Depending on whichever of these two interests you most.

This shouldn't be too hard for you anon and of course while this is going on you are now going to what is known as NEET status. This is perfect for you because in your free time that won't be spent preparing, sending your resumes and applications out to potential employers or schools can be spent getting better at your art.

Cut the inktober bullshit out and focus on sponging up as much fundamental knowledge and media that you can during your free time. This will be your new "job" until the work thing sorts itself out, which honestly shouldn't be longer than a few months.

>until the work thing sorts itself out

The work thing rarely "sorts itself out" unless you sort it out. Going full NEET is retarded, the longer you're out of a job the harder it is to get a new one, they do look at when you were last employed.
Not to mention many people have things called bills.

If he dedicates at least half a day to find a job I find it hard to believe he wouldn't be able to get a job in a few months or even less to be honest. You make it sound like it's actually going to be difficult for him to find work or something.

Unless he is known throughout his and surrounding neighborhoods as some sort of sexual deviant he should get a job in no time at all and still have tons of free time to get better at art.

It usually is unless you want to be a dishwasher, you're well connected or really damn lucky.

I'm starting to burn out on inktober and I think it's showing. I'm doing a hell of a lot more quick pieces but I'm losing the patience to sit down and focus on one good one.
If anything at least it's made me less afraid of ink I guess.

if you do things that are totally boring (a single candle, wtf?), how do you spect to keep doing it if you make yourself to hate it

>> No.2250228

>>2250226

Basically I can't think of shit all I want to draw right now. A candle sounded like an interesting exercise in light and dark at least, not that it came out particularly good.
