Who's doing it?
Are you gonna use a list or just drawing whatever?

I'll do it for sure. I am going to try not to copy any artwork for 30 days. Since you already made a thread I'll post my stuff in here.

Here is the official link http://mrjakeparker.com/inktober

InkTober rules:

1) Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).

2) Post it on your blog (or tumblr, instagram, twitter, facebook, flickr, Pinterest or just pin it on your wall.)

3) Hashtag it with #inktober

4) Repeat

Note: you can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. What ever you decide, just be consistent with it. INKtober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more you’re consistent the better.

>> No.2236801

Yes, every year I see people doing it and want to join in but I was too lazy. Now I'll do it for sure.

I'm not sure yet about a list, been thinking about it... I just can't define a theme, maybe I'll just do fanart of stuff I like since inktober is good as a practice and also to advertise yourself, and fanart is the best to gain followers. hehe

>Does anyone have suggestions for pen drawings?
I used a thicker pen when I started using pen (pilot fineliner) - it was more forgiving. The 005 and 01 microns leave less to the imagination and you may appear to have more chicken scratching when you try to add volume and vary your line weights.

But at the end of the day the 01 micron is my favorite. I found that the 005 tip wears away too fast when you draw on copy paper (it is like drawing on sand paper). If you draw on bristol board or something smoother they last longer. The 01 can take a bigger beating, but I usually wear the tip out before it runs out of ink (I draw mostly on copy paper)

I defined my goals already, I'll start drawing tonight probably (still 9 AM here in Brazil).

Everyday I'll try to finish a comic page of something I like(like that page featuring the movie Whiplash) or something from imagination if I think of a story.

ALSO I'll try to mix the tools using the pentel pocket brush. I really want to learn using brush pens to get a more dynamic linework, but I fuck it every time, particularly the details as I have a heavy hand and can't figure how some artists do details with that brush pen.

So guys my entire, or at least most of it, progression has been on an intuos tablet, I'm just used to the smooth surface it provides. Even though I used it mostly for line art, I just can't seem to be able to translate that on paper. I have problems doing the same lines on a rough paper and feel my hand shaking way more than on the tablet, any tips for this ? I would say i'm pretty good at lineart but do not get the same results on paper.

I would try warming up my hand beforehand. Grab a piece of plain printer paper and make strokes on it with whatever you're gonna draw with. Pencil, pen, brush etc. make broad strokes, scratches, hatching, circles anything to just get that hand warmed up. Do it for about 5 minutes. See if that helps

Might as well post this comparison I did of waterproof pens that are commonly found in stores. The Sharpie pens are easy to find, but the ink is fairly grey and dye based. PITT, Micron, and Staedtler are pretty interchangeable and perfectly fine pens.

I'm going to continue to proselytize for the Pentel "Finito!". It has an ink flow like a Pilot Precise and tip like an 03 Micron (albeit more durable). The thing is just fantastic and my new favorite drawing pen.

I'll try to borrow a better camera and make a better one with more pens.

Is it me or is inktober absolutely huge?

This is the first time I'm into it and I've honestly never heard about it before. Now, everyone I know is doing it and I'm seeing it on various different websites and in very different styles as well. The other years I was not much engaged online, not even posting my drawings anywhere, so I might have not known about this... Was it as big as it is now on the other years?

It's the same as usual, I think. What might make it seem bigger is there are a lot of "knockoff" October drawing challenges like drawlloween, drawtober, and goretober. Everyone and their mom is doing some sort of 30-day challenge, it's just not necessarily inktober.

Can someone explain their process of ink washes to a complete beginner? I was playing around with it and found it difficult to get the correct tone and each brush stroke seems wildly different to the last. Also, do you load up water before or after (or both) adding the ink to your brush?

You must mix the ink with the water in a cup. Try it with a small ammount first, a small cup of water, then only one drop of ink. Stir, use your brush and see how it looks on the paper. Drop one more from the ink into the water, stir, try again. You'll notice the shades of grey, you can get to as dark as you want. Try to overlap them on the paper after the last one has dried.

Also, use good thick paper. I think it is best to use at a slight inclination, this helps not forming pools of water over your paper, everything will go slightly down. If you have a thick paper and that inclination, you'll get better control.

You can't load the water and the ink separately onto your brush like that. You can, however, draw with just the water and then touch that water with the ink to produce certain effects.

Agreed. I can do people vaguely better digitally because I can fix my mistakes but I never construct shit well enough for faces.

I was so tired yesterday I had to take a nap before I posted - I'm the super commute anon with the 8hr day job + 5hr commute. You can double up one day if you are feeling ambitious, then work from a buffer.

Day 6, had to rush it because my first attempt was over-ambitious and I ended up ruining it.
Hopefully I'll do better tomorrow once I've got my shit handled and have more time.

Her torso is too long and her dress is rift ing in an unnatural way. Almost like it's ignoring the fact that her legs are not strict down like the upper half of her body. Either way successful day 6 is successful. Just make sure you post this in the new thread bud.
