I get the feeling that groups with thousands of members are kind of pointless because your art is drowned out by the sheer amount of new artwork that gets posted all the time.

Also a lot of the groups that let everyone join have naturally a really low average skill level, so I imagine not many watchers there browse those groups to find artists to commission for work. Are there any groups with lots of watchers that don't let just anyone join but have a higher average skill level?

I've been drawing on flockdraw for a bit. Have an album on imgur that I update with new or revised versions of pics in the album.

Would seriously like to hear some solid criticisms on what I can do to improve. Yes I'm drawing from reference, no I'm not tracing I'm eye-balling it.

The first image in the album is not done by me (obviously) but was a refence pic for a couple of drawings done.

The first thing I notice is that your linework is very hairy. Second thing is that it looks like you're drawing the shapes you see instead of deconstructing into simple 3D forms. Both of these issues may be related, and while I'm not sure how your mind works (eg, is it easier for you to think of shapes in terms of negative space or do you build up forms from silhoutte?), I'm almost positive you'll see significant improvement if you take the time to reduce what you're drawing into something simpler instead of eyeballing rough approximations.

For what I see you doing, I recommend trying the envelope technique for a month or two:

I think of negative space more than silhouettes. Although even in that regard it is more after the fact.

I try to draw out the shapes as they'd form, trying to get some 3-d aspects to it. I imagine some of that falls flat as I'm trying to do two things at once.

As for the hairy lines I'd say that it's a combination of what you stated as well as the opacity I typically draw at. I got at it from 30 - 40 generally. As a result I'm most likely going over the lines a few times resulting in that hairiness. I'll try and bump up the opacity some. Should look into draw more from my arm instead of just wrists too now that I think about it.

I'm definitely looking into the envelope technique. Will do some studies on that.

you're not good for pretty much the reasons people already gave you. you don't construct anything and lack depth in parts of the picture that aren't the face. also lack of construction leads to proportion fuckery like in your newest drawing. you rely only on value to help build your drawings, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I have less than 100 followers on instagram. I don't understand how people get so many followers, unless I'm just a lot worse than I thought I was...
