from the perspective of pixel technique, it's incredibly noisy, there are lots of jaggy lines, and you could use fewer colors with more contrast to better describe form. the stance and anatomy are fairly awkward as well.

these two maaay not classify as pixel art, especially the second one because they're not really worked on "at the pixel level."

>>2229819
>>2229820
These two on the other hand are definitely more on the pixel level. As I said before I recommend not posting them at 10x. It's best to post at 1x.

For crits, I'm generally liking the atmosphere/style you're getting, pretty good stuff. I'd say try to contrast the colors more and make them clear, the first image is very dark and it's hard to see the detail around it, I know it's your intention to make it dark so I wouldn't lighten up the colors too much. The 2nd image could also use some more contrast, the highlights especially are too close to the mid-tone. The light source doesn't seem totally consistent, and there's a bit of pillow shading going on here and there, like her right hand and her belly.

For now I won't comment on the other two because they're not *really* pixel art to me, although the third one is definitely closer, but again I am liking the style/atmosphere you've got. Nice work.

>> No.2230030

>>2229896
I wasnt actually trying to pillow shade there, the bits on the left are supposed to be the shade cast by her sword arm.

The others are still pixel art by my own definition, having been constructed at a sup-256 px scale with a mouse, but I get where you are coming from.

>>2229880
I had a bad habit of blowing it up a bit too large, but for the most part it's so people dont have to squint to see what I drew.

>> No.2230064

>>2230030
>shade cast by her sword arm
ehhh, I can see it, but I still don't think it's obvious. I think in that case the shadow should probably extend to the skirt as well.

Having downsized the third image, it definitely looks more like you placed a lot of the pixels "by hand." The third one I imagine you used the fill tool to fill more space than the others?

Anyway, it's not so much about whether it is or isn't pixel art, I just say it doesn't "feel" like pixel art because it's not really controlled at the pixel level. That said, I would recommend at this point to work on getting smoother lines by getting rid of jaggies. To better control this, I recommend working with a smaller canvas size, definitely smaller than the 4th image anyway. Actually, I would love to see the 4th image at half the size with the same effects you got going on there.

As for blowing up images, if there are pixel artists around, I would say don't do it at all, even if you think it'll be hard to see. (If you post at pixeljoint or wayofthepixel.net, they have controls to increase/decrease the size of images). For the masses though, feel free to increase the size, although I personally recommend around 2x to 4x. 10x is just too large for me.

>> No.2230066

>>2230064
whoops, I meant the fourth one being the one about the fill tool comment.

>> No.2230073

>>2230064
Yeah, since I was going for kind of a binary look for it I didn't see much issue using the fill tool.

I'll try and hammer out a quick redraw of number four for you, really I just did a bunch of stuff with aseprite's contour tool for the oilslick effect, and the background is an upscaled spray can effect I usually use for drawing scales quicker.

>> No.2230076

>>2230064
also shit, you're right. I entirely forgot to continue that on to her skirt!
Thanks for pointing that out, I still have the file laying about for easy fixing.

And I did intend the contrast to be less intense on her shirt than the skirt, it's a different material than the skirt. Less silken, more clothlike.
