I'm really not too sure what you are trying to show. Is that a man? A statue? Is he going to fight the other guy? Are they on the same side? Is he riding an animal? or sitting on a weird throne? The tree in the distance looks like another person at first. And the giant tree on the right is distracting.

When people say to simplify your image, you should simplify your THOUGHTS about the image. What is the scene? What is the best way to show this? What is unnecessary to show this? Is this the best angle to view it at? Is this the best lighting to show what you want to show? I honestly have no clue what I'm looking at. Don't just thing about "composition with basic shapes"...think about the story and point of the image, and the composition will almost dictate itself.

I dig it. Maybe widen the frame and shorten it to allow more information and concentrate on the two figures to the left? I'd say your composition looks fine as is, though, I'm assuming what is there is a statue with a figure behind it, but like >>2216189 said, there's no story behind it or enough information. >Cause I'm just winging it,

Do you even want to learn? If i give it to you straight are you gonna come back at me with "post your work"? Can i have your word that you won't get pissy and over defensive? Are you asking for critique or for someone to beat around the bushes and have some compliment like "otherwise good work keep at it anon ;)" at the end?

First and foremost, chicken scratching. You could have avoided it by having a glance at the sticky.

Secondly, what is it? It's a face drawn very iconically. Aka symbol drawing, where you do not think about the object in 3d space or perspective which makes it flat.

>inb4 its just a 2d drawing, therefore it needs no depth

Lastly, there is no indication of initial construction. Again you could have avoided this by having even the slightest peak at the sticky.

And that is the biggest problem of this board at the moment, not reading the sticky.

People want shortcuts, and it shows. Jumping in here straight away, posting into a thread with your absolute first drawing or even making a completely new thread for it in the hopes of someone giving you an answer to a question which has no such answers. For example like " how do i git gud?" or "Here is my first drawing am I going to make it?"

The sticky is there for a reason, to give beginners like you a spring board so you don't have to make a new thread looking for answers which are explained in depth in the resources within the sticky.

I really feel like re-directing beginners to the sticky or telling them to open up their loomis books is disregarded as some meme. But if you gave it a chance you would see why people do it, not to be mean, but to help you understand that it is pointless to come here asking for the same information that is in those books.

The worse you start the more obvious the progress will be. 30 days isn't much time, but given your level if you are drawing each day for a few hours you will see some improvement.

My recommendation is to slow down when you draw. Spend longer looking before you put down each mark, and when you make a mark don't rush it and do a fast hard scribbly line. Take some care with the line and have your hand move in a controlled manner. Just by slowing down like this I think you will improve a lot.

Did you draw it from a photograph or did you draw them outside looking at the actual object?
The details on the left-hand building are very well rendered, its a shame the clouds and the other building have been rushed.

Anyways. I can see you've opted for the pencil medium, which doesnt have do, but in this case looks a bit dull. It tends to be like that when you are not dealing with different tones. Whenever I draw buildings from life, I like to bring a little box of watercolours, just to bring some life into the drawing and to complement the heavy linework. Also consider using ink instead.

You also need to look at your perspective a bit more. Right now all the lines look a bit too parallel to each other. Try to remember that each axis should converge to a common vanishing point, even though its not visible on the drawing space.

You should also consider looking into composition. Right now theres a great load of details occupying the bottom side generally. The buildings also cut very awkwardly with the borders which makes it very unpleasant for the eye to view.

Other than that, I might be wrong but you are using a ruler right now. Try to do it free hand to get your hand muscle memory going.

These are all some good concepts to consider. I can understand you probably a beginner and haven't been drawing for a long time, which is ok. There's a long road ahead, we've all been there - It's just about how hard you are ready to work.

Yes I drew them at the park. And it looks rushed on the other half becuase my legs felt like they had needles in them no matter how I folded them. That's why I had to stop earlier than I wanted to.

I really want to start using watercolors that's for sure. I like the landscapes that Anthony holden makes using really loose and brightly colored water colors and pens and eventually want to be able to draw like that. But right now I only know how to use a pencil.

Interesting note about the ruler too. I never thought of it that way. It will be good to practice using my whole arm and line stability. I'll give it a go with the next drawing. Thanks.

Right looks significantly better. I'm not an expert, but I'd recommend that you darken the following areas:
-The entire drawing except for the tip of the nose. I don't know if this is true, but body parts that are closer to you seem to be lighter while the ones further from you are darker (if the lightsource is coming from above). It might seem like a tall order, but if you can make the tip of the nose seem brighter than the rest of the drawing, you might like it.

-The throat area underneath the chin could use some additional shading to make it darker.

-Sides of the forehead and sides of the nose could use some very additional bits of shading to make them slightly darker

These should (hopefully) set you on the right path. I'm in the process of learning these things right now and I think I have understood the things I just told you well enough to pass that info to someone else.

But above all, don't take my advice if you're not willing to experiment. I could be wrong.

Hey, different guy here, and I'll try to give you some pointers.

Keep in mind I'm not great, but I think I can help give you an idea.

1. Keep cool, remember where you are. You are on both an anime imageboard AND an artistic community. Don't be naive when it comes to comments.

2. Proportion is important, be mindful when you draw, I know you can tell the difference. As you are studying Loomis, do what he says in regards to drawing skeletons, as I think you didn't use one. I understand they are boring, but they help you understand.
Main spots of trouble are torso width, leg size and footsies.

3. If you want to practice shading, I'd recommend working with grey rather then colour, I find it easier to tell the difference.

4. Look into Bridgman or Hampton, they break down anatomy into a more visually simple method.

5. Even when you are just practicing try to do the most you can to render good general forms (i.e skull shape, abdomen, etc.). They don't have to be good, but try to be more accurate, this will help in the long run.

6. Keep practicing boyo, and the work will all pay off.

I understand I'm no exemplar, but I hope it helps.

Have you never heard the saying 'practice like you'll play?'

If you shit it up, ever, because 'so what, just a little thing,' it's reflected when you try hard. Always give it your best effort. Always. In sports, in art, doesn't matter. Fucking faggot, don't make excuses for yourself. If you ever start a response to critique with something like 'But,' or 'Just,' or any phrase to take ownership of failure off your shoulders you're only short changing yourself.

It's hard. I do it. Everyone wants to do it. But when you're called out for it, don't keep barreling down the path of ignorance like a retarded bull.

Steps to get gud:

Practice hard, always

Learn from every failure

You're not doing either of those, so straighten the fuck up or get the hell out of my board. I, and everyone here, will hammer this into you, because even a hobby deserves respect.

So toughen up, and stop phoning it in because you're afraid of failure, or else you'll always be one.
