You know what book will help you draw that? Any book on drawing in general. There's no special, distinct skill set for drawing that picture. People have this idea that all these different themes are genres and fields of art are in a vacuum. Like being a competent drawer/painter isn't enough. I think the coloring does the drawing a disservice. The linework implies the lighting should be from one angle and then the coloring makes it seem like the lights should be somewhere else. It gets muddled about when the colors are added in.

Its importance is hugely overrated imo. But anyway, it's just one part of drawing. You don't need an entire book about gesture. That's like having a book entirely devoted to something like planes or whatever. I see people practicing nothing but gesture drawings and never getting to making many actual figure drawings.

I did and I saw that he had a book, so I thought I'd buy it...except that it's not even New and it's like $70

Eventually, the book of Yan will get scanned too. It only needs to happen once and it'll be online forever. I doubt it even has substantial information you need to properly draw the figure beyond the construction that is already available in Bammes, etc.
All you'll get is a few tips and tricks on how to get his style and his process while Yan laughs in your retarded face for giving him money.
