You definitely shouldn't see self promotion as a bad thing, it's just necessary if you want people to know about you. I just post my art which doesn't include any fandom or nude chicks and I barely ever write anything - I have 4000 followers so far. As long as your art is good and you promote it, you're gonna get them followers, simple as that.

the point we're trying to make when we call you out on using an argument like "if you think you can judge someone then post your work to prove you're better" is that it's so naive and leads to nowhere. Let's say you post 5 WIPS for a single piece. Even if that doesn't annoy your followers, what happens when anybody new comes along and wants to see your work. They end up scrolling through newest to oldest, and have to wade through shittier, earlier versions of something that they've already seen the finished product for.

That said I have seen people post 1 WIP and 1 final for a piece, usually finished lines for the WIP. I've also seen people post a finished piece, then shortly thereafter post an image compilation of their process in a single post.

Point is: WIPS are fine and showing your workflow is fine (assuming your work warrants it). Pulling a Firez and posting 5 WIPS of the same piece seems annoying to me, and I have no idea who'd appreciate that unless there was substantial change in each step and each step was pleasing/informative to look at in their own right. If I followed someone and they started posted a bunch of WIPS for the same piece, then they'd better be pretty damn good otherwise I'm unfollowing.
