The text is actually useful instead of pseudo science shit and the dude explains things properly and focuses on the right things. Also it explains a lot of things that will be useful even later on such as the ways to create depth other than values
Also one other thing that's better about it is that the book teaches you to see for yourself and translating 3D to 2D by your own
brain instead of that strange shitty grind. It also teaches about restatements and master studies which I believe Right side does not even touch. Not 100% sure on the last one tough since I fell asleep when trying to read the text on Right side.

>Dotcom: I'm not involved in Mega anymore. Neither in a managing nor in a shareholder capacity. The company has suffered from a hostile takeover by a Chinese investor who is wanted in China for fraud. He used a number of straw-men and businesses to accumulate more and more Mega shares. Recently his shares have been seized by the NZ government. Which means the NZ government is in control. In addition Hollywood has seized all the Megashares in the family trust that was setup for my children. As a result of this and a number of other confidential issues I don't trust Mega anymore. I don't think your data is safe on Mega anymore. But my non-compete clause is running out at the end of the year and I will create a Mega competitor that is completely open source and non-profit, similar to the Wikipedia model. I want to give everyone free, unlimited and encrypted cloud storage with the help of donations from the community to keep things going.

You can't trust it anymore, it's owned by the New Zealand Government now, the data isn't safe, you're getting snooped on using mega

bought nico marlet's sketchbook, came in the mail a few days ago. nico is a production designer at dreamworks and did the character designs for kung fu panda/how to train your dragon.

i'm going to be honest, a little disappointed the drawings in this book aren't as appealing as the ones he did for the films mentioned above but i guess it's understandable. it's really a collection of his cafe sketches and some are kind of nice. the drawings veer a little more towards character design towards the end of the book

>> No.2181726

Those two books by that dino fag I remember were pretty good reads when I was learning painting. His work is super kitch/shit but I still love the guy. He gives fantastic guidance for how to actually do paintings behind the scenes. All those small things that are so important that no one tells you unless you are around a successful studio artist all the time. It's like a how to book that lets you in on all the behind the scene secrets of painters. Theres a heavy emphasis on practical stuff rather than getting bogged down with theory. Gurney, just remembered his name. Also good for color theory although he gets fixated on some gamut mapping thing he came up with which is dumb in my opinion.

Alright, which book would /ic/ recommend for someone who's had some classical training already and is fairly experienced at drawing? I'm looking to solidify my anatomy and perspective, etc., but a lot of the books I've tried (Keys to Drawing, Right Side of the Brain, Fun With a Pencil) feel like they're directed at someone with absolutely no experience, and as such I get bored very quickly.

So, you've done figure studies in real life?
If so, time to move on to imagination. Hampton's Figure drawing and Invention is a good start, Mattesi's Force is also good. Bridgman's Constructive anatomy as well as Life drawing are good choices. Framed Ink is good for composition help. Get some painting books like Alla Prima and Color and Light (fuck How to Render, it isn't that good).

Hopefully this is enough to keep you interested until your imaginative skills catch up.
