your perspective is off.
grab a copy of "perspective made easy".

doing perspective free-hand, is pretty easy. you can pretty accurately guess where the vp are and doing the lines free hand adds a certain humane characteristic to the drawing.
anyway, you ae doing it wrong. i'd suggest using a pencil, instead of a pen.
pens force you to think before you act. what's done can never be undone.
pencils give you more freedom, they feel better, they usually look better, you can erase them, etc.

>or don't, I need the criticism.

>> No.2181130

>>2181115
you are right and the reason you messed up the dark parts is because the brush works very differently from a pen/pencil. with the brush you are basically manipulating form on a very direct level and there is no way you can make anything you did undone.
with a pencil you easily work everything out beforehand.

the brush pen is a hard tool. use it if you want to but i wouldnt suggest it for beginners. i only use mine when i need to color in bigger parts.

what works best in your drawing is the tree trunk. it shows the brushpens strenght: it can work extremely well with light and shadow, if you know how to control them that is.
that is also why the rest of your drawing fails. you should have worked out the light/shadow (and form) of the leaves first before ging right into them.

this is why kim jung gi excels with the pen. he already has the form, the details in mind and he has a plan on where the light comes from and what it does to the form. that's where he starts. as a normal person you will have to spend years training until you get to a point where all those things become second nature.
same thing mike mignola says in interviews about hellboy. sure he struggled with the whole shadow thing in the beginning but for years now he has been at a point where he thinks less and feels these things more.

Thanks dude, I'll keep that in mind . I got it as a present and didn't know where to start because doing a very detailed sketch before inking seems to ruin this tools spontaneity, but its really fun to do morning sketches with , so I think ill keep using it for that purpose.

I'm finally understanding how to use the H side of pencils. Before, Everything was all B side but I've learned that you can use H side pencils like a blending stump.

The drawing is of an old knight soul embodied in a new knight body.

Also, I have a question/request from y'all. I notice that when I think about a character or a story surrounding a drawing the drawing comes easily to me. When I focus on the drawing and the technical aspects I am usually left with a blank piece of paper. Are there any good resources out there on story telling? Specifically for short stories. Maybe a simplified three-act story arc that I can read up on.
Any suggestions would be helpful.

I have been at this for a long time, and I don't have anything against illustration or digital media and in this thread there are a few who might make something good one day, but I would employ all of you and train you if I could. Out of all of the people in this thread you all show the most promise, some are at different levels but none of you are taking short-cuts.

You can all make it. A word of advice for those that haven't already; study the conceptual process. It doesn't need to be abstract or pretentious contemporary concepts, but the worst thing you could ever do is make art simply to "look attractive." Even the impressionists were trying to make a statement with their work.

Quick figure drawing exercise + some feet. I am very aware that the figure drawing didnt turn out so well.

>> No.2206673

>>2206638
The bottom three sketches of feet are great (except for the right heel). The figure looks very rushed, as if you didn't spend much time actually looking at what you were drawing or don't have much figure study to fall back on.

If you can put out more drawings with as much attention to detail as the bottom left feet then you will be doing very well.

you don't like robots. you like figure drawing. go find a figure drawing class so you can get better at drawing people.

only reason they are "robots" is cause the drawings are stiff. If the figures weren't so rigid they'd be people not "robots"

a5 is good for carry round, quick idea sketches. Fits comfortably on most scanners which is nice. I don't usually use a4 as I can't quite mentally separate the dimensions from college rule paper I've used all my life in school. So If I go big, I go real big.
