>tfw only your shitty two minute drawing gets a decent amount of notes on tumblr
>tfw the art you took pride in doesn't
I give up. I can't win.

Maybe you should open your eyes for once and think about why this is the case.

This, being a competent artists isn't all about how gud your skills are. It's also about being able to analyze what the public or client sees in your work and use that to make better art that people want to look at.

Not sure Shibe cares, he looks pretty happy in that right pic. lol

The amount of time spent doing something does not predict the quality of it. Quick drawings are great for getting the overall feel, gesture, colors, that's why you should start off simple and not jump into detailing right away. This is a huge problem for beginners as they can't seem to see the bigger picture and just get carried away by details so they keep polishing turds.

There's also the fact that people in tumble are more comfortable reblogging obviously low-effort things.

They are. It's a very casual medium. Popular art reblogs (that aren't fanart, to clarify) generally fit into two categories - low effort & funny, or so obviously skilled and high quality it's genuinely impressive. Anything in between won't get noticed unless it's fanart of a popular series/character.

I managed to get 60k+ notes on a few of my posts -because- I made them purposefully look the sort of casual low effort that tumblr snaps up. This is because I knew I'm not at the genuinely impressive skill level yet, though that's my ultimate goal.

tl;dr know your audience before you pin your self-esteem to their reception, ya doink.

It is pretty funny how the tumblrinas who hate bronies so much seem to be falling down the same rabbit hole concerning Steven Universe. "How DARE you say it's a cartoon for children!! Look at this horrifying porn I drew!!"

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Personal works are generally unflattering to the public. There is just too much of the artist in it for them to consume. In the age of the internet everyone is a narcissist. Things with the right amount of ambiguity and hinting at the right current trends will get much attention. It's also import to know that most of the time certian things get attention is because it attracts very active reposters or bloggers. So things that look popular really aren't they're just spread around a lot by a view dedicated webhead. Seriously most shit on tumblr, deviantart, pixiv, furrfinity are popular because of a handful of proactive fans, hence the abundance of fanartists

Honestly stop caring about notes and just get good. Make the content and the people will come eventually.

I like Steven Universe the show just fine. It's just markedly hypocritical for the loudest subset of "STOP MUSCLING THE TARGET AUDIENCE OUT, DEMANDING THE SHOW CATER TO YOU, AND FILLING THE FANDOM WITH ADULT CONTENT" detractors towards bronies are now muscling the target audience out, demanding the content cater to them, and filling the fandom with adult content in Steven Universe.

IMO both groups are shit who need to quit gettin' mad about cartoons.

As Adventure Time targeted manchildren, Steven Universe targets womanchildren. Childchildren are an afterthought.
