Well you are drawing different expressions from different angles with simplified animoo style. So you aren't exactly making things easy for yourself. Perhaps try removing one of those three things from the equation and it will turn out better. Three stylized views, same expression. Three expressions, stylized from a single viewpoint etc.

I don't think it has anything to do with the style you're using. I think it's because the proportions of the face are slightly changing with each expression. They're all being viewed from a straight-on perspective, yet in the right two her eyes are slightly below the halfway point of her face. In the leftmost expression they're actually slightly above it. Where features are placed matters just as much as how they're drawn.

If that didn't make any sense I could do a quick redline for you.

pencil is shiny, charcoal is not.

vine charcoal is lighter and brushes off more easily, so use it first, then put in darker parts with charcoal pencil or compressed charcoal.

Don't use white charcoal until you're finished otherwise.

I would build up armor the same way colored metal is build up in real life.

Start with a greyish or silverish base coat, then layer on black/red, as it appears to be either painted/parkerized/anodized/whateverthefuck

Ignore the edges and corners, as the finish would wear off the same way bluing wears off a gun

On top of that you're going to layer polish/wax/clearcoat/whatever and add highlights/reflections

Now if someone knows what the fuck they're talking about please correct me

Can't see anything on your drawing, but you are supposed to measure what you want to draw, but not in cms or inches, but using another part of the drawing as reference.
For example, in a front profile, a good looking face (usually) has this proportions, notice which measures repeat, and which ones are used to measure smaller ones, I think Right brain has you selecting an initial base measure so that you can use it to compare it with the rest of your scene. You could do that, You could also measure the distance with your fingers or your pencil.

no offence but i really dislike your style. Apart from the fact that the childish style is not my cup of tea, there's nothing right about it. Anatomy is fucked, pose is horrible, smudged colouring is poor.
If she's supposedly standing upright her head should be near enough directly over her feet....here she would be falling over forwards. Boobs are wrong, knees are wrong, ass is wrong.
Her left boob would be higher and more to the right there. The muscles in the breast join up in towards the armpit. From this angle, I think her left knee would be lower than her back knee which is further away from the viewer.

Just study anatomy more. It does help even If you're not going for the realistic look.

Hey, so I used to draw a lot when I was younger and i still doodle a lot. I want to take drawing more seriously, I have no training and haven't studied Loomis (I'm going to), but can someone just critique what I'm doing right now just so I know if it's any good at all. I can post more.

Drawing your figures isn't a bad way to practice. Try to incorporate more structure into your process, because right now it seems like you just winged it. Challenge yourself and try drawing her from different angles. Use simple shapes to nail down her form at first to have a good idea where you're heading (sphere for the head, cylinders for the limbs, etc.) Since you have a 3D model right in front of you, it should be easier to figure out how to make your shapes look 3D.

I want nothing more than to be able to draw and sketch well, last night I decided to buy a sketch pad, pencils, and sharpener and try to teach myself to draw. This took well over an hour of focusing on each line and it still didn't come out as I wanted and its probably the best I've done. I can picture how I want to draw something and how I would go about it in my head, how it would look in 2d on paper just fine but there's some big disconnect from my brain and my hand. I wish I had used high school and middle school to learn how to draw so I could have all my bad artwork there instead of being in college and drawing at a middle school level...

been working on this for the tower thread for a bit. i'm having trouble making convincing folds in her robe, i haven't gotten good with hands yet, and I'm not sure if the hat looks like it's floating above her head.

also I'm sure there is something wrong anatomically.

Well, you're at the baby steps level so don't expect too much from yourself!

Draw with loose, quick lines instead of trying to be cautious and drawing slow and heavy. Try to draw more sketches in the same time frame! And the disconnect between what you imagine and what you create sticks around for basically forever, so get used to it, to be honest.

Go to the beginner thread and then focus on visualizing and creating 3d forms. Beginning is damn hard, but you'll get better if you draw as regularly and often as you can.

Looks like a lot of the form was lost when you started painting in your values. If you decide to try again, make sure you get the shapes right, and block in your values in bigger chunks using a larger brush. I can tell that you have the skills to pull it off. Good luck!
