He's basing it off of the helmet, which is a stylized Stechhelm, or Frog-Mouth Helm. They were used exclusively for jousting, as you couldn't move your head in them.
Being upset over something this stylized is odd, because you'd have to be completely okay with the super tiny head on a giraffe neck and double-wide shoulders, but somehow draw the line at the combination of certain historical pieces of armor?

the difference between the detailed rendering and the stylized, warped anatomy bothers me even more.
when I first looked at the image, it caught my attention because of the stange form. but I enjoyed the details, like the mud on his cape and the detailed armor. and then again the anatopism of the armor.

I wouldn't assume it's poor research, but a case of form over function, or the rule of cool.
The drawing is clearly not meant to be a realistic depiction of a knight, the proportions would tell you that right away. The helmet isn't bolted down to the chest piece, the fact there's a cape at all, the two handed sword and buckler combo, the lack of plate on the arms and legs, it's all just to look visually interesting. Almost looks more like a monster or enemy that would be encountered in some game.

I can understand being upset if the drawing was going for a period look, like everything was as it was supposed to be, but then the artist throws in some wildly mis-matched and out of the era piece of armor, because you'd be starting from a point of realism and believability. This drawing does not.

It's true though. Pale-skinned people do have noticeably redder noses than other people, especially in cold weather. Low amounts of melanin make their skin more translucent, so areas of the body that have thin skin and are rich in capillaries look red/pink. Think noses, ears, fingers, toes. The tumbler meme with sharply delineated red nose patches that look like clown makeup is pretty goofy though. It looks creepy to me like fat, rosy-cheeked Campbell's soup kids do.

I don't think this is good character design at all.
There's stuff going on everywhere, what am I supposed to look at first? His face, the spider-like crest on his armor, the skull on his belt? What's the point of interest? What's the rhythm?
It's not as bits-and-bobs-all-over as the concept art of some eastern MMO's but still it completely lacks any coherent style.
(And those pinetree-like spikes on his shoulder pads look dumb as fuck, just removing those would already massively improve the whole)

Also the cloth hanging from his belt is breaking dimensions. It's in front of his upper right and behind his lower right leg.

Not the anon above but I disagree. On the right page the biggest figure's pelvis and legs look off to me, and the dude on the lower right has a massive right arm that is totally out of proportion. The character on the lower right of the left page is a complete fail and the face of the neckless guy on the upper left of that page does not fit his head dimensionally.
The whole picture is full of slightly strange proportions and generally a lack of dimensionality, the only decent drawing IMO is the girl on the lower left.

It's not a disaster for sure, but I think a quick refresher of Loomis would certainly do no harm.

I noticed those things, imo the only deal breaker is the hge right arm, that was obviously a lack of planning by the artist. the rest I chalk down to them being robot-like figures.

Don't get me wrong the proportions are by no means perfect but my comment about 'you need to take a break from Loomis' was to stretch the fact that perfect anatomy and proportions is nice but not entirely necessary 100% of the time and there are much more important things at play. A good dynamic artist will take liberties.
