That being said I feel like something is off about the lighting. It's polished enough you'd only notice it if you really looked. I think maybe it's that the ambient moonlight isn't present enough. Outside lightning is a less forgiving of ambiguous light sources.

beautiful work though. Wouldn't bother changing anything, but keep in mind in the future. Honestly tho I think it's a valid design choice if that lighting better showcases the anatomy. Unless people are critiquing your work polish trumps logic.

The anatomy for the body is usually very impressive and I can tell you're skilled.

I see handsome dudes in porn/art and I try to study what makes them handsome. A lot of your guy's faces are kinda...
well, they end up looking like a weird cross between a slutty girl, a black dude, and an unfortunate SE asian.

From what I have learned studying various artists works (I'm mainly talking animu here) The face is very simple and mostly angular. A pointed thin nose and the lips, while drawn very simply, usually are drawn with a straight line under the mouth.
I think adding the top lip usually ends in the male looking more feminine if you're already giving him an angular face.


I also see box/rectangle type faces with shorter noses (but not wide) usually drawn with muscles. I pretty much see these types as handsome japanese dudes. This isn't a typical animated style but a lot of this type of handsome in the art community.

What I see in your art is not a good use of angular male faces. Black dudes have rounder facial features and that's fine for them I guess, but if you add rounded features to any other dude. You gotta make him stocky or work on more angular composition, or else he ends up looking like a Malaysian whore.

Not only do you need to get out more and stop looking at animu trash for studies (your losing your touch with what's actually true in reality), but a rounder nose and fuller lips doesn't take away from the box/rectangle face shape, which is in part a produce of the jawline. That's what it comes down to. Shit like that is universal for all races.

Yes they have round features. Lips/nose/(and loosely the brow). I don't know what you're trying to prove because I wasn't arguing against the general skull shape. but if you want to be technical about it than bone shape does affect feature proportion.

I study real life as much as I do anime but the idea was making convincing sexy anime people. It's foolish to spout "don't study animu" when there are so many things you can learn from other artists. Don't be so up your ass about life studies to the point where mentioning stylization makes you act like a know-it-all, when in fact you're just showing your inability to learn.

This is a critique thread. I am critiquing BBC-chan's art, and I already think he is skilled. He is very technically skilled and that's great but having a pleasing style is nearly as important.

I am not saying he has to draw "animu same face" What is everyone's deal with anime and why does it trigger such a scripted response? I am trying to give him advice about how to make his faces more masculine and yes, in my opinion, more appealing. As I have said, he is very skilled and I am not calling him terrible or even sub-par. But when there's an issue you critique it for the betterment of the artist.

This isn't a hugbox. If I drew something that wasn't pleasing I would want someone to tell me. It's a subjective matter, yes, but all artists should get feedback from different perspectives.

I am giving bbc-chan my outlook on things and posting what I have studied and know about the subject matter. That's all I can do for him. it's irrelevant as someone giving advice to talk about subjectivity and differential taste.

When your critiquing style and not technical ability, you're basically giving feedback that can be completely discarded and ignored because of what it's based in, preference. I could understand if that style was used as a crutch to mask the lack of technical skill, but that not the case here. Nice analysis (keppok?), I think I pretty much agree with all you said (even though this particular image was a commission where I had to draw a specific archetype of guy). The problem with the stylization of my male characters has partially to be attributed to the fact that I try not to be a sameface artist (even though in the end I always end up being one lol), and as soon as I'm trying to experiment with different shapes, I start losing spontaneity. That's the main problem with all my lesser works I guess. I still have to learn to loosen up.
In this particular image I think the main problem is not the male protagonist, but the not so great pov, that makes the whole illustration less interesting and hot. But I still find it hard to picture a requested scene in my head, that has both an interesting pov and conveys all the info requested by the client.
I still have a long way to go.

This exactly explains why I post on these boards. Even though it's 3+ years that I'm in the porn drawing business now, I am totally aware I have flaws. Especially when it comes to anime stylization in general. I love anime and I'm studying it to try to incorporate, what I think are, it's best aspects into my artwork, which is very western (not just because of the western comics I draw, I had this style even before that). Right now I think I am at a point where I am still too self aware of what I'm trying to draw and many of my art lacks spontaneity.
I totally need all the feedback I can get, and negative critique is much more appreciated than prise. Hearing that somebody digs your art is nice of course, but what really makes me improve are reality checks where people bash my art to a pulp.

It's okay to use soft shadows and highlights on non wet skin surfaces, but you should add more hard highlights to the wet parts. Don't be afraid of using hard brushes.
For example, saliva isn't white unless you mix it with other fluids. In this case you can depict it just by adding very glossy highlights. You don't have to draw an entire white strand to make people know there is saliva there. Also, remember to make the curves as fluid (great pun brah) as possible, never breaking their flow (pun combo?). As soon as you make a gravity based curve broken it looks unnatural and no matter how good your highlights are, the eye doesn't buy it anymore.

Well what i do when i feel like i have to learn something specific is take a photo and copy it, then try to recreate the same from fantasy, then see what mistakes i made
then again from the photo, then again from fantasy until i can get it right. But i think that you have to think and find tricks to remember not to do the same mistake, like the hand thing i told you,
never just mindlessly study.

The time I take on commissions (of the same type and price) varies because of many factors. Usually I tend to sketch pretty fast and clean or redraw the linework even faster, but sometimes I take very long experimenting with various povs and poses either because it's one of those days where nothing seem to work well (with this specific commission it was one of those days), or either because the client gave me lot's of freedom with the pose.
tl;dr I try to meet a certain rate per hour (sketches 2 hrs, clean lineart 3 hrs, fully colored stuff 6hrs, etc), but I don't necessarily stick to that at all costs.

I'm an art school drop out who gave up on his dreams and works a steady day job. About the only art I make these days is porn related, or half finished requests from draw threads that I never bother to post. I don't have a stylus for my tablet, haven't for a long time, but I find drawing by hand on paper is easier, anyway. Digital art methods just aren't fast enough, I guess. Without tactile sensation I loose control, and I waste a lot of time correcting mistakes I would have otherwise learned to live with.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Sorry for shit image quality, I don't have a scanner or a good camera for taking pics of my drawings, so this is the best I can do at the moment. One thing I know I need work on is line quality; right now my outlines tend to be wobbly, which I sometimes like and other times I don't.
