Here's a lithograph I made a few months back it took about 12 hours to draw 141/2"x17"

>> No.2153530

>>2153525
Neat. Perspective is wonky, but otherwise it is pretty nice. What's the process like on that? You need to draw with wax and do some acid baths or something? Was it a difficult process? Did it need lots of specialized equipment?

>> No.2153550

>>2153530
Yes you draw directly with wax crayons and you can do some reductive work with scrappers and pieces of porcelain . You use gum Arabic and nitric acid to burn in the image in two separate processes and you let it sit for about a day before printing
It's just process intensive and there's a lot of room for error but really not difficult you'll need a specialized litho press and you have to keep the stone moist throughout the process so the ink actually stays in place . I got lucky and the CC here has great printmaking facilities

Cool thanks for responding. Sounds like quite the process, and unfortunately something that I wouldn't be able to do on my own.

Are there any printing techniques that are able to be done just by your average bloke in his apartment without crazy facilities?

woodblock. all you really need is the wood and a simple carving set.
and use the direct ink on block, then carve technique.
but if you want more accurate lines to carve around, you print out the image you want on light paper and rub the toner out onto the top of the woodblock with linseed oil. the toner will attatch to the block when you remove the paper. then carve.

this is a rushed description. sry

Yeah man of course give linocuts a Google - just big pieces of linoleum you can cut into and print at home like wood cuts but cheaper here's one I made in my bedroom with a little piece of class as an ink rolling station

And a shitty print of my latest etching - gotta fix those burning bundles by burnishing some white into them and applying some softground to the figure on the left

>> No.2153598

>>2153595
They take around 20 hours to carve just because I was learning as I went - the latest one took less just because I knew how to use the tools better by that point - you can have multiple blocks or you can use reductive techniques to remove parts you want colored as you go or multiple blocks - you could probabaly pull around 100 before you get some quality degregation - I don't mess with color I'm not that good yet
