That's pretty dumb. It seems to suggest that style is what gives the effect. I don't know where this guy gets his information but it seems contrived to support only a narrow definition of line. And for a tutorial about "inked lines" why demonstrate with pencil like shaded lines?

The last one is just plain stupid. If the heavy lines are already a part of the design you can't really say they're hiding balance issues. I don't know if having heavy lines makes it easier to draw, maybe easier to copy, but the designing is more complicated than it looks. Heavy lines have there own issues with balance. And did it ever occur to this guy that maybe heavy lines were used because of their clarity on television screens? I mean this was before HD!
