Make something that isn't cliche, is genuine, and has actual meaning and you will have something better than 95 percent of whats out there in the commercial/entertainment industry. That thing you posted is utter garbage even if the artist has decent technical skills by digital illustration standards.

There are already thousands of western artists who you will never "beat". The chinese are just the go-to excuse of every loser who can't make it. If you want to become a professional, your question should be, how do I compete with artists like Catbib and Tehmeh. 2 people from this very board who aren't famous professionals at all, yet they are so much better than you that it's absolutely ridiculous to look any further than them.

You haven't even beaten the first mini-boss, yet you are thinking of how to beat the optional, secret special boss.

You fucks amuse me. You think the chinese or the spics are taking your jobs because they are sooo good, but you don't realize that it's because being white makes you lazy.

Your cushy, padded lives never pushed you to do anything. The worse you've ever dealt with is guilt because you decided to play video games on your $1000 PC instead of drawing on it like you promised your parents you would do when they bought it for you.

Meanwhile Jose Feng Work-Visa has spent every night since he was 10 drawing shitty comics on printer paper with a mechanical pencil, so that by the time he got around to getting a shitty PC and a tablet, he was literally drawing circles around you.

So you come to /ic/ and you make threads like "How did I git gud fast?" or "How can we compete with the Chinks???" and you never, EVER consider the idea that the problem is you.

But not committing to your art career when you have invested so much time into developing your skill is actually the potato choice.

I mean, it's not like he's an engineer or doctor or something in real life where you could say "what a smart guy, he chose the conservative, secure career and does art as a hobby!"

If Catbib was smart, he could make thousands of $ off of patreon just by posting sketches, studies and fanart pieces once a week.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with doing it for fun, but when someone says "he's too smart to go full potatoe into this shitcareer." then that is flat out wrong and stupid. It is not the smart choice if you want to make money and have a successful career.

Especially because we have to consider that he is not exactly a casual hobbyist either, but he has put in a lot of time and effort to get to where he is and he is doing commissions on the side. That doesn't leave time for another career other than flipping burgers or some other dead-end part time job.

If your choices are to commit to art, market yourself well and make 10 to 20k$ a month or do shit tier Deviantart commissions and work a part time job, the latter is sure as fuck not the smart choice. That said, I'm fairly certain Catbib is actually doing quite well with his art and isn't taking his art career nearly as casual as some people think he is, just because he isn't posting any of his professional client work.

Also, just for the record, drawing ugly people is very easy compared to drawing pretty people. I know your ego really needs to believe that there is at least one thing you are better at than these guys, but you really aren't. If an artist can draw an idealized beautiful woman, you can bet your ass that they can easily draw un ugly, old man.

Well, other than tumblerettes, no artist in the entertainment industry usually draws ugly young women and stuff. 99% of all ugly humans and human-like races in entertainment, whether the artists are from the West or from China, are either old and deformed, witches, wizards, evil villains and so on or mythical creatures like orcs, ogres etc.

But clearly this shows that they can draw ugliness, so I don't really get why it shouldn't count.

I'm with you and I am starting to notice this a lot in most commercial things. It might be tied to culture but since I see it a lot in western art as well I mainly think we are starting to see the backlash of not actually going outside and take inspiration from the real life sources it originated from.

The majority of the Level-Up crown mindlessly parrot the same advice and links each others tutorials, but no one is critical of the level of truth in those. It has all started to become a "Well this needs to be like this because that's what this person says" when it actually should be like "This looks like this because of this, how can I use it to my advantage?"

You can see this mindset in the stylization artwork as well. You are probably going to call me shit taste for this but I like the level of simplifying anime does. However this mindset is also very very present in anime.

The whole copy+paste mindset seems to be from that no one wants to take the hard road anymore even if it will end up more rewarding and help you out further down the road.

>> No.2149322

What I meant with the anime part is that you can easily see if the artist knows about anatomy and decides to break the rules of real life voluntary compared to someone of who does it because "That's how we have always done it".

Autism.

>being white makes you lazy
>cushy padded lives

Oh look, it's one of those "minorities" that thinks every white person is the direct descendant of 17th century southern aristocrat slave owners and everyone else lives in a Brazilian favela facsimile. Get fucked dude.

The real problem is the complete destruction of artistic tradition in the west in the early 20th century which turned technically sound art into a far more niche production than it was generations prior.

The east has little love for the "spontaneity" of the western 20th century art movements so when it comes to those people that consider themselves artists among the billion chinese and their hundreds of millions of oriental cousins few (if any!) have fallen into that delusional sub-culture. Personally, I feel the west may surpass the east once again in just a few short decades as entropic "modernism" is finally rejected and we come full circle, but it doesn't matter to me a whole lot either way.

Whichever side "wins" (lol), west or east, we all win together because it means better art and media for we, the ultimately inconsequential mass-men, to enjoy.

What does it matter what ethnicity the artists have anyways? If they wouldn't have that job, it's not like you'd get it. There'd still be a million artists better than you, regardless of their ethnicity.

Well no shit, genius. Big clients hire the best artists they can find, they don't give a shit about ethnicity.

They don't go out of their way to hire koreans or chinese though. I honestly don't get this entire argument. Especially when the Korean artist in question lived for decades in America, which is a melting pot of nothing but immigrants. I mean, african americans count as westernerners, right?
