Everyone likes to look at art supplies.
95% of mine are stolen, but I don't steal cheap shit. Got some prismacolored pencils, winsor and newton oil paints, cheaper acrylics I stole from school, copic markers which are my favorites. I have more too, I just couldn't squeeze it all in the shot.
It pays to be good at stealing. Especially if you're poor as shit.

Did anyone here see the new Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee with Jim Carrey? Near the end they go to Jim's studio, where he paints a bunch of contemporary weird stuff. Not gonna lie, I was pretty impressed with his setup, like it had awesome light, a maaaassive table overflowing with paint tubes, tons of prepped canvases etc. It's what happens when you want to start up a hobby and have millions to spare.

Yeah, no. Printed paintings still look awful, unless you're going for the extreme plastic look they have. Digital still has a shitload of problems when trying to imitate some mediums, like watercolour.

Having the only copy of a piece of art still has more value than probably all the the digital art it'll be produced through this entire year maybe even more.

Material costs for traditional are always pilling up and are not cheap, imagine every time you finish a piece and start a new one it's up to 10+ dollars in supplies, imagine every brain fart you do, costs more money than digital.
>inb4 eletricity
Even considering eletricity, an artists can easily spend 500+ dollars a year. In 2 years it's more than a cheap setup + eletricity for digital.

Digital has an entry fee of about 1700 obamas or less (a good computer + tablet or drawing monitor + cheap laptop), hell you can do it with 550 obamas (50 for the tablet + 500 or less for a good /g/ computer).

Seeing that way, digital is the pleb's choice, the pleb who has no money to invest in infinite supplies.

Any person who worked in retail will tell you this. The amount of losses (stolen, lost product, etc) is actually all recorded and that store and its workers pay for it, whether it's losing their weekly coffee or shit like losing hours or getting laid off if it's really bad.

So yes, you're supposed to make due with what you have, you entitled cunt. You're not hurting the company, you're hurting people who have to make a living on their own as well.

That isn't true in the slightest my NEET friend.

The employees only pay when their register is short on cash. Not when the store is short on inventory.
If it becomes very serious, the manager and district manager check the cameras in the area of the store with the most-stolen items. (If their net amount of paintbrushes remaining does not match their paintbrush sales, they video-check the paintbrush aisle for any suspicious activity).
If it's always a certain brand of item and they are unable to identify any suspects, the store will simply move the items to a more secure spot, purchase more cameras that will help catch/prevent any thieves, or they will outright quit ordering the item.

The employees couldn't possibly care less if you stole something, so long as it is out of their sight and any potential blame is waived due to their unawareness.

I actually just bought a toned sketchbook, but the white pen I bought sucks (it says opaque but the damn thing has horrible coverage, I have to go over it multiple times for it to actually show). You guys got any suggestions for good white pens?

Cheaper is better, but so long as it's good and under $12 I'll be happy.

Getting into oil painting but I have a few questions. Ive got basically everything, just the minor details bug me so far.
>I need a good standing easel, anyone have any suggestions?
>Paint thinner. Do I dip my brushes to clean, then rinse again and again and keep going til theyre clean? What do when the paint thinner color changes? Right now ive got a big jar of orange/purple water and sediment at the bottom
>Best paint/set for price? My budgets kind of low but I already burned a lot of my 12piece Reeves on just tests

You can technically paint without paint thinner. You might, however, need more brushes and be more conscious of what colors you have on your brushes. Even for cleaning my brushes after painting sessions, I only use the oil-cleaner hand soap. I have a small cup, fill it with some water, wet the bristles, lather up a foam on the bristles, and swish in this cup, or on the palm until all color is gone. Wear rubber gloves if you're working with toxic pigments, or to prevent the skin on your palm from damage (especially if you're using hard bristles).

From my experience, relying too much on the paint thinner can destroy the bristles. During painting session, what you can do is have paper towels near by that you would wipe the excess off on after having swished the brush a bit. You might purchase a jar specifically made for solvents with a coil, or make some sort of suspended disk of metal with punched holes in it (with the sharp protrusions pointing down), and the pigments and oil will settle at the bottom. You can also use a sponge. Keep in mind that using a brush on a coarse surface will destroy the bristle over time. When it, the thinner, becomes dirty, let it sit, and the heavier more corporeal matters having settled at the bottom, transfer the rarer spirit to another jar, and clean out the lutum that have settled at the bottom of your alchemical flask.

Would clarify that you only really need to clean out the spirit when it starts to affect your fresh paints. You're likely only only going to be having a very small amount of it in the brush and worked up in the paint when applying to canvas, and at such a small amount (most people wipe most of the spirit off when applying new paint unless they're using it a wash as in under drawing with a brush), the spirit is nearly transparent. It might look dirtier than it is in the jar because of how much of it your sight has to pass through.

Would also clarify that the sponge goes on the bottom of the jar to wipe your brush on, although having thought now you can devise some way to have it stick to the side of a jar, the sediments will fall more on the bottom of the jar and still be able to wipe your brush in the sponge that's submerged in the spirit.

The bottom of a soda can if it can fit inside the jar, with holes punched through, can also work.

I have the same problem, I just love getting new ones and trying them out. The only issue is if you end up disliking the sketchbook you end up with a charcoal pad with only one page filled taking up space. Except it's twelve sketchpads.

Someone please link me to a decent refillable pocket brush/fude pen. I see them ranging from like $5 to $60 a piece and I have no idea what the difference is.

I have no intention of buying their refill cartridges. Would India ink be alright to refill one with, or would that clog up the end? Do I need like waterproof calligraphy ink or would cheapo speedball super black do the trick?
