Lets see how far you've come. Doesn't matter bad or good, it's always helpful to look back and see where you started. So post your Progression, and hopefully you too can see your improvement.

Here is mine, haven't doing art for a long time. Though once I started studying and actually learning what I was doing and not just using the soft brush in photoshop I started to understand.

I got a long way to go before I'm anything near industry ready. Grind all day and keep grinding, material studies, anatomy studies, form and light. I lack the ability to do males so I'm working on that as well as perspective.

The one thing that stands out to me is that your pics are always consistent in style and I'm not just talking about the subject matter. There is something that makes your work distinct and it's apparent even in the tortoise.

I think organizing your masses and values will really level up your work. That tortoise is awesome because it has a neat and tidy shape. Most of your other pieces have many tiny details competing for attention and diluting the initial impact. It's not that you should take these details away, (they are pretty sweet actually and have this classic sci-fi feel) but organizing them and creating flow will make your point of focus that much more effective, letting the details do their job more elegantly and your work a LOT stronger. i think it's already starting to happen, so whatever you are doing, keep on!

>> No.2120324

>>2120222
Your progress is pretty clear to me! Most noticeably in your poses and general expressiveness. There is a whole lot more character and flow and personal touches. I think you can tell a lot about an artist by the way he handles free-flowing forms like your blue genie's scarf. Incidentally that is the painting I like the most.

A lot of porno/ero artists are female. At least that what the internet has led me to believe. Mostly Japanese doujin artists and your average fujoshi. I know some females on tumblr who draw lewd but you can usually tell since they all kinda type the same. Most people think brek is the girl because he types all cutesy. It's one of his charm points.

I've only drawn Jenny once. I don't really like full robut girls, even though Patty is a cyborg.
Anyways this is an aside but it's hard as fuck to draw /co/ characters. They're not sexy in their native styles normally, and most of them I associate with my childhood and feel weird when they're drawn sexy.

You have no backgrounds in what you posted and your compositions look accidental, I was referring to the figures, but perspective is perspective, if it's not good everywhere, it may as well not be there, generally speaking.

Not really actually. I just drew a lot but I never made anatomy and photo studies or anything like that, which I now try to do at least once a week (I know it should be done more often but I can never really force myself to do it more). I also didn't pay attention to dynamic, posting, composition and atmosphere before 2014 (not saying I'm good at these now, just saying I started working on them)

That was me until 18 yo.

>You got any advice for me on how I could deal with that stuff more effectively other than getting off my ass and stop drawing anime?
I used to only draw anime, there was a moment I thought "do I really like drawing or do just want to be good at drawing anime because I want to be like those awesome mangakas?". All I did was changing my mindset and approach to drawing. I came to the conclusion that if I really enjoyed drawing I would enjoy doing it even if it wasn't anime, that the enjoyment should come from improving my skills and not from my subject.
There were a few things I did like doing funny or "me" things to boring exercises like drawing faces on boring geometric forms.
If any of that doesn't work for you or I'm not clear enough, at that time I had developed a mindset similar to what is mentioned on this TED talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM-56LaFNZg

tl;dr
boring things are fun now because I found pleasure from improving and overcoming challenges.

>>2124679
I'm not big into composition, I'm mostly self-taught and my focus is on character design, so I'm not sure how much I can help you.
I simply follow basic color theory (color temperature), design rules and motion/gesture.
Check Ctrl+Paint series on composition, if you haven't seen it already, and eventually books on design like Universal Principles of Design.

Dat guassian blur and chromatic aberration...I'm surprised it's not got a super strong film grain on it. It really makes your image lose meaning and seem like a shitty anthony jones wannabe.

Be careful too with your values, like you have painted her with very heavy darks, that make her look metallic and also hide stuff in darkness (your eye structure could be all wrong but there is so much mascara there that it's impossible to tell for sure).

My journey through life is my own. And if the mere thought that those better than me will fall off at some point makes me feel better, then that works for me. Pessimism merely creates stagnation. It is far better to focus on what you can do at the present time in order to pave the way for a better future.

Your journey is your own, and if you want to bitch about it instead of doing the work itself and continuing to succeed then that's your own grave you're digging.

The point is that you can either fall off in obscurity or you can take the reigns and actually make something of yourself.

Davinci also didn't have to get into the sciences, invent things, and get into other facets of society. But he did, and did it without regards to anyone else's success. Just because someone my age is doing my dream job doesn't mean I'm going to be a pussy and whine about it. I'm going to keep going till I get what I want.
