Isn't it funny how basically the average 20-something artist can effortlessly reproduce works on a level of quality equal to any of these old masters? I just find it interesting that thanks to better tools, education and availability of information (internet etc) that any old hobbyist artist can match and surpass the men who were considered the greatest figures of their time.

Wat. No 20-something artist is effortlessly surpassing these guys. It's not a fair comparison between oils and digital. Also not a fair comparison between quick sketches and final pieces. Digital is FAR easier to rework and in general is more forgiving and easier in many regards. The only weak work posted here is the modern stuff, and arguably the Turner figure, but he was a landscape artist and that piece probably also was from memory and not from life. Plus it's pretty stylized, and honestly kinda nice in many ways.
