I never called the design good. Whether the design is good or not isn't even part of my argument. In terms of it's quality the only real point of arguing would be the functionality of the ribbon, which is probably not much. But this is the old ancient argument of functionality vs aesthetics. considering this is entertainment and her character is made for sexual appeal you can see how functionality isn't the first of their concerns when designing these. The ribbon gives her a particular point of interest and it helps to sell the character, along with the combination of short girl + big boobs, which isn't as common.
The things you pointed out might "trigger" you, even though the source of your anger isn't the design itself but people's reaction to it, but the fact is that the design does more than a good job at fulfilling it's function, as shown by the constant stream of fanart. You just happen to fall within the minority margin of people who personally dislike it. Essentially it's an issue of taste an hipsterism rather than a design problem.

If you're learning to draw specifically so you can create manga or comis then yes, tracing is a valid strategy.

Most mangaka learned by tracing and it's important for a symbol based style to get the "correct" symbol down every time. As in, you need to draw the same eye and mouth repeatedly or risk destroying the immersion.

If you're not drawing comics or manga then it's going to be up to you to make sure you understand the dynamics behind what you're tracing.
