Okay, so I'm kind of sick of doing commission work. Mainly because I started offering to do animated work, which became so popular that I no longer get commissioned for drawings anymore. They unfortunately take forever to do compared to what I'm paid for them. And to top it off, I did one inflation thing, and it's really all I get anymore. I haven't taken a commission for about 2 months now because it's made me depressed (amongst other shit).
Should I start a patreon for animation? I've only got 1300 followers on FA and I'm not sure if that's good enough to start one. Nope! I very rarely use references, if I hit a wall where I simply cannot figure out a pose I'll try to find some point of reference, but I don't directly draw from reference ever. I believe in visualization. I always think of when I go to sleep, there's that period of time before you're not really asleep but you're not really awake when thoughts and images and even sounds in your head become crystal clear and you can essentially see exactly what your mind is thinking. Don't count your mind out, use it to see the poses/settings/ideas you're trying to put to the paper. Next time you're stuck, close your eyes and try to see in your mind what it is you're attempting to render and then try to create.

So, you do use reference.

You can't visualize something you've never seen before. Referencing for poses doesn't mean you're copying photos 1 for 1. It means you've seen how the body tends to look at that angle from other photo/artworks and are able to apply it anyway you wish to your work from those prior observations. When I draw I don't copy directly from photos, but I DO take in a lot of imagery and artwork from artists I like before I start drawing off the top of my head. The only time I copy directly from photos are during studies.
