I was in a thread earlier and people were talking about not using gimmicky programs and I was wondering where Manga Studio lands on that spectrum.

I haven't spent any time learning any programs [other than flash to an extent] and I just downloaded Manga Studio 5 EX so I want to know if I will be wasting my time learning how to use it.

my answer:
who the fuck cares if you like using it
manga studio is popular for reasons
sai tool is popular for reasons
photoshop is popular for reasons

Manga studio is a good program exclusively for comics or comic art.
If either suits you, then go for it.

What makes a program "gimmicky"?

Use whatever you like. If it works for you, that's all that matters.

Not really, it's not like Photoshop is any better for painting.

You fucking retard, then don't do digital art at all. YOU ARE FUCKING USING COMPUTER TO DRAW SOMETHING. HOW CAN IT GET MORE GIMMICKY? Nobody cares or will know how you drew it except for you. If you can make a beautiful piece using anything you can use, then there you go.
I'm sick and tired of people saying some tools are gimmicky so they won't use it. It's like having really nice fine brushes in real life and you decide to use fucking small ass shitty brush all the time to paint everything, and wonder why your painting doesn't look good.
Either be retard, or utilize everything you can to make something good.

The "gimmicky" discussion was on the subject of ArtRage and the way it simulates physical tools and paint. Not sure why OP brought CSP into it

Photoshoop isn't all that great for painting alone. It's good because you can do all sort of things with it. For painting alone, I'll rather other programs. Krita for example, or SAI. They're not proffessional but they work better for me.

Then you don't know how to optimize Photoshop well.

I cannot deny that, but I've been using it since 7 and to this day I still don't like the brushes it brings with it. I guess I'm just too lazy to look for a better way to paint with it. I do use it for a lot of things, but not painting, not anymore.

It helps my computer cannot run anything past CS4.

>Manga studio is a good program exclusively for comics or comic art.

This is some heavy disinfo. The focus of this program is illustration, regardless of it having a couple of manga materials and tools. It essentially does everything SAI does and more.

Also OP Manga Studio isn't gimmicky at all unless you find it having a couple of preset materials that you aren't even forced to use "gimmicky".

Then just alter the brushes to your own needs, Jesus.

If you're going to claim something about a program, at least know how to use it.
