Nah, sorry man, Inoue shits on your work

>> No.2020612

I like vagabond and all but i still think Slam Dunk is a better manga, as far as showing Takehiko Inoue's skills. I mean, the art in Vagabond is fucking gorgeous but 90% of the time is just close-ups of faces in every fucking panel.

>> No.2020633

>>2020612

Slam dunk is also alot more fun than Vagabond ever has been.

Not that Vagabond is bad I actually really enjoy it but Slam dunk was hysterical.

The only dude who do everything by himself is Masamune Shirow.
Every mangaka has assistants, that's how the industry works in japan.

>> No.2020837

There's many artist that draw their won background, especially those who aren't tied to a weekly deadline.
Inoue, Hamada, Murata etc all draw their own background whenever they can.

True Vagabond has a lot more experimentation with poses and yeah >>2020633 I've been reading Vagabond for a while and just started Slam Dunk and wow it really shows a hyperplayful side of Inoue I've never seen before.

Just look and draw and look.

I hope that doesn't sound condescending but sharpening your brain like that is probably the most effective and simple way to "git gud."

I just feel aimless. I'm reading books and taking an art class but also attending uni full time. I'm sapped of energy most days so even if I want to draw I can't produce anything worthwhile. The ability to produce the illusion of 3d alludes me and anatomy boggles my mind though I AM PHYSICALLY ANATOMY.

To draw 3D you have to look at things in 3D.

I can tell from that drawing that you know how to keep blacks running through the page and have some pretty stellar line work but honestly its very flat.

To get better at anatomy and 3D you have to draw quickly and almost without thinking, focusing entirely on what is before you, noticing not the texture of a bird's feather but the wing as a whole.

This takes time and effort which seem like a hard thing to have from what you've said but honestly there is no better way to draw than practice and practice and practice and never become discouraged.

>>2022683
I'm going to keep practicing, even if it's just drawing shapes in a notebook during classes. I'm minoring in art so I'll continue to be directed by a professor but honestly, so far we're just skimming the surface and barely dipping into subjects so I don't feel like I'm getting much out of this. I've been drawing seriously for less than a year so I suppose I've got such a long way to go. I'm already discouraged but it comes and goes. I just worry when I practice, I'm not getting anything out of it.

>> No.2022694

>>2022691
Oh well dude for less than a year that's really solid output. And its true that if you practice incorrectly you may worsen yourself but (not to sound like I'm some art-deity or anything) if you follow the advice I gave you'll probably be better off.

And as far as your school situation: I always consider art classes in any environment an opportunity for the person in the class to accelerate their artistic maturation rather than a professor guiding the person's hand. You can be in the best art school in the world but if you don't have the initiative in yourself to keep going nothing will ever change. The classes should be a bonus to the progress you make on your own.
