reddit.com/r/artfundamentals would be a good start for a newbie, as of now your drawing seems rather flat to me, so try to draw some 3D shapes until you're alright with it.

After that, if you're interested in figure drawing, try to buy or Google for a pdf copy of Figure Drawing Design and Invention by Michael Hampton, also check out Proko at youtube, his videos are rather helpful if you want to get better at drawing figures. Loomis book is very solid and his illustration are absolutely top-notch but I found it quite lengthy.

Okay, I'm going to need you to answer a few questions, so we can see what we're dealing with here.

1. What's the nature of your work?
2. What are the ideas your work deals with?
3. Who do you want to see your work?
4. Have you ever had any formal training?
5. Do you do any routine exercising?
6. Do you smoke or use tobacco?
7. Do you drink alcoholic beverages? If so how often a week?
8. Do you have health insurance?

Good, Good, Good. Alright, now I need you to perform a little test for me and we'll be all set.

I need you to get a blank sheet of paper, a pencil, and a red felt tip pen or marker.

With the paper in front of you, and the red pen in your hand, close your eyes and make 21 dots all over the paper. Place the dots randomly and try to space them a part quite a bit.

Now using your pencil draw a face connecting only those dots. You can use straight or curved lines, whatever your preference. Don't worry about likeness or how weird it may look, just try to make a face.

Post your drawing.

Okay, I got the lab results back. And well, it's not good. You have what's known has Malignant Creative Perception Agnosia (MCPA) commonly known as Shit Fucking Taste. This is a disorder affecting artistic seeing, it prevents the artist from seeing things in a relational and creative way. Common symptoms are disproportionate figures, unsure linework, inharmonius compositions and generally shitty drawing.

There is no known cure for MCPA. But there is treatment. I think they can help. We can't guarantee a full recover. What we can do is help alleviate some of the pain and discomfort of having no skills what so ever. The extant of the recovery will be up to you.

The treatment we will be providing is called, sighting and is a series of observational drawing exercises. It's a slow treatment but it can offer long term help.

Now, before we can get plan for you going I am legally required to tell you about alternative treatments.

Copying/Tracing is a very popular and cost effective treatment. It has no long term merits but it does provide immediate short term recovery. Most artists live a comfortable life with this treatment.

Photobashing is a relatively new form of treatment. It's the most expensive and is unorthodox but it can provide recovery. Results are debated, so I suggest you get a second opinion.

Will you be interested in any of these alternatives? I'll let you talk it over with your family. I can also refer you to other doctors as well. Let us know when you're ready. Okay?

Alright. I'm going to start prescribing you a simple exercise. I want you to take it at least 3 times a week. (Pic related) Try to get a good night's rest before doing the exercise. Drink plenty of fluids and maintain a healthy diet. Also set up a jogging schedule to go along with the prescription. We're going to try and get rid of some that bad-seeing flab so you can start to feel a little better when you draw

The first part of this treatment is to watch the following videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzDGO0LssEM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3PGcMxEHM0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHyixGBjg_E
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ0y4MiM-pc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVIBjVdeg2c

Then we're going to have you start reading Harold Speed's Practice and Science of Drawing. Read chapters 1 thru 9. Here are some links for the book:

https://archive.org/details/practicescienceo00speerich
http://www.gutenberg.org/files/14264/14264-h/14264-h.htm

Then read the Analytical Drawing chapter from Poling's Kandinsky's Teachings at the Bauhaus. The chapter can be found here:

http://www.arch.ttu.edu/people/faculty/Neiman_B/files/kandinskyarticle.pdf

Take notes and do both the prescribed exercises and the ones found in your readings. Obtain a sketch book and take walks outside to practice measuring and sighting things of interest.

Hopefully with faithful effort we can start to see improvement after a few short weeks (4 to 6 weeks)

Hello,

My name is Dr. Goldstein and I want to talk to you about a serious matter, Shit Fucking Tastes. In the artistic medical field it is known as Malignant Creative Perception Agnosia (MCPA). Shit Fucking Tastes is a disorder of the artistic seeing function of the mind. It prevents artists from seeing relations that can be used to create art. This is a serious art disorder that affects thousands of artists every year.

There is no known cure for Shit Fucking Tastes. But there is help. Which is why I urge you, if anyone you know may be suffering from Shit Fucking Tastes, get help. They don't have to suffer, we can help them. Together we can save Art.

Possible symptoms of Shit Fucking Tastes are:

Disproportionate drawing
Overly formulaic drawing
Excessive chicken scratch
Rigid and dug lines
Uninteresting composition
Boring subjects

If some one you know has any of these symptoms seek treatment immediately. Be a friend and get help soon. Save an artist.

If you have any questions contact your local Art instructor.

Thank you,
Dr. Goldstein

It would be more like keeping recordings of your practice sessions to remind you where you FUCKED UP BECAUSE YOU WERE TOO MUCH OF A STUPID PUSSY ASS BITCH TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU WERE DOING.

Knowing when, where, and how you were fucking things up is of great importance on the road to better art. Old drawings are kept as sort of benchmarks
