Thanks Noah. I hope you fucking die

I know everybody loves hating on Noah. Especially op since there is no way you found this picture without the context that goes with it. He did this for charity ( or if you don't like him, to pimp himself to the magic crowd ) because a magic player died. The card is based of a photo of him. He did it for free and his reason for doing it are debatable. But it's in no way wizard of the coast official art.

I honestly don't see why this is bad. Everyone seems to think if a pic isn't a perfect replication of life, it's bad, and if you reference to get it closer you're a hack. They also seem to think being able to see flaws means they're better. The truth is if they were producing work of this quality regularly, they'd get work.

Nah. I'm working on a project right now and I realize just how hard it is to execute something polished, and as it stands I won't have time to go back and fix the mistakes I can see, and that's another thing people never factor in. Or notes from editors. Sometimes they have other people edit pics after it's turned in. Everyone thinks what they see is a raw, untouched piece but it's not always & not always done in ideal situations. This pic isn't flawless but it's good, you're all just nit-picking.

>inb4 don't need to do it better to have opinion
A lot of people itt are basically saying "I'm way more pro than this" and "if you can't see why it's shit, then you're shit, I can tell it's shit cuz I'm gud". So I'd like to see someone make good on that for once.
I know it'll never happen though because 9/10 times anyone who's worked hard enough to get even close to this level or better isn't the kind of person who sits around shitting on other people on 4chan. It takes humility to be dedicated enough to one's craft to get really good, and I'm not seeing much humility from the people complaining.

Ok I get you. Fair enough. Guay is a fantasy artist, I'm sure they approached her for a card because she's a great candidate. But they made her do a foresty background art? Im not shitting at him, It said his stuff is good, he is in fact good, but hes done better things and he abused the small resolution of the cards in this, its not bad just the way things are done when you have little time. I can do what he does, I dont want to be asociated here, but I respect him and his work, just quality could be better.

I know why you are mad, everyone here thinks they can shit on anybody even if their art is not as good, but I dont see the problem with constructive criticism, there are people who paint bad but if you been staring at something for a lot of time you loose judgement, even non-art people can help you to see what things are off.

>> No.1989466

>>1989452
>you are mad
There we go. People read too much between the lines around here. I'm not mad but for once I would like someone to back up their claim that they can do it just as well or better. I hardly even know who this guy is so it's not like I have some personal stake in it.
Anyway so far I haven't seen anything itt that amounts to constructive criticsm. No specifics like "arms are too big" or "head construction is off" or something. And like I said a lot of that stuff is negligible considering the context the picture was created in - if you work in the industry, you know you can't put 100% into every single picture you do, not if you expect to take on enough projects to live comfortably. So I want to challenge the people who are just saying it's bad without explaining and claiming they're better to be more convincing. But I know they won't.

>> No.1989474

>>1989466
I would anon, but really dont want to post my art here, at least not in this shit throwing thread, thats what I said quality was the issue as in rendering, maybe the card was a sorcery and not a characters that could be a reason for the lack of polished details. I understand what you say
> - if you work in the industry, you know you can't put 100% into every single picture you do, not if you expect to take on enough projects to live comfortably.

It's fine, I didn't think you were that other anon, your responses are a lot more reasonable. Now that you've explained your position beyond "it's not wallpaper quality", though, I'm not trying to get you to post your work. It's really the other people, like that anon you referred to, who should, if they're going to make claims like that. From now on I need to just ignore and hide threads like these because I have never, and probably will never see any evidence that the people who come in here to shit anonymously are anything more than jealous.

Honestly, using someone's death for marketing seems really callous and asinine. Who can say if that's what Noah's intention was, though.
>>1989352
Well, mucked up resemblance aside, the anatomy is fucked sideways. Look at the far shoulder and it's placement relative to the neck. and his belt is at elbow height, with the crotch apparently directly below. Not to mention, the center of the collar bone and the center of the armor seem to be placed differently. Ect.,ect., not hating, but Noah doesn't really seem to get anatomy, and most of his figures show it.
>>1989371
Let's be honest, you can get away with a lot of shit on a MTG card, since most people will see that art at like what, 2x2 inches?

This thread hasn't been going on very long, but in the threads that've gotten longer, there's more, and if this thread continues, there'll probably be more of it here too. I said before I'm not familiar with Noah's work, I only ever just heard of him recently because I follow comics more than concept art. I'm not necessarily defending him so much as I am calling out the people who claim to be better. If you want to point out real problems with a piece, that's fine, there's something to be learned from that. But merely sitting back and passively aggressively saying "THIS is what passes for professional these days?!" isn't constructive, it's just criticism.

>> No.1989548

I'm not celarx or anyone who has a name around here. The premise that people around here give really good feedback is debateable but I definitely agree with you about ignoring these guys. I just had to try at least once to see if anyone would back up what they say, but of course not, they're not that kind of person. If they were, they'd have given real constructive crit in the first place rather than vague passive aggressiveness. Then if they were actually giving well founded critique, they wouldn't have to be afraid of showing people their work. I gave it one good try so now I know to treat these threads as what they are.

It's weird: /ic/ has a lot of hate threads, but I never see anyone else get the same level of asskissers that Noah has.

Whenever his latest turd gets posted here, there's suddenly either dozens of people or a few really loud shitposters ranting about how bitter /ic/ is and how we should all post our work.

I think maybe this is because Noah makes a lot of people on /ic/ feel good about themselves, like maybe the bar isn't so high after all. They rage when people point out Noah's terrible anatomy and environments consisting solely of badly rendered rocks because they want to believe that Noah is great and they're almost great.
