If you're Canadian and love art, what would you do, career-wise?

I have no idea, personally. I don't want to go to Animation school then be shipped off to a job halfway across the world and leave my family behind.

Whether it's digital or traditional, I don't care. But I do want to know, assuming someone has a very good portfolio, is there a future for them in Canada? Ontario?

there is a lot of game studios in montreal and toronto.

Search 'animator' into indeed for the areas you'd like to work; this will help a bit. Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are some of the best locations, but don't rule out other towns like Oakville (Rockstar) or Hamilton, or what have you.

There are 'snappy' style 2D studios (Mercury) here and there, and many more specializing in 3D. There's more to Canada than you think, however you might want to consider working in the US anyways if only b/c the content there tends to be better. Canadian cartoons suck balls.

There are game studios but they require you to be ridiculously good to get in. Best bet is to just do freelance.

If you want to do animation though there are a number of small companies for kids shows and the like.

Yes, in Vancouver like >>1987923 said a better chance for me. The schools I choose are Emily Carr, Capilano. Asides to becoming like a film producer, there is a course on BCIT. Opinions for these places?

>Canadian cartoons suck balls
Pic Related. I know we're like the CFL to the NFL I hope the Writers Guild of Canada(or anything) better step up their game before I do.

Unrealistically Speaking: If I enough funds to open up a studio, I will promise everything I produce wold be judged for mistakes, carefully crafted from workers raised at corrected skill. And everyone doesn't give a fuck about controversy.
TL:DR My dream is to create a Studio that is based, in a pants on head place that is Canada.

>small companies for kids shows
Might become the perfect dead end job for me in case. Besides trade or career related ones.

How do you swing that? I want to move to Nevada to get away from the tyrannical gun laws but from what I've seen it's very difficult for an artist to get a visa.
