I'm looking to get a new computer because my old one only has 2 gb of RAM and it can just barely run Krita. Would I be better off with a desktop PC or a Mac? What about a laptop? Looking to run Photoshop, zbrush and illustrator.

>> No.1953994

PC.

You can find a good laptop that will run any program fine but it will be more expensive than a desktop of equal if not better specs.

>> No.1954030

If you have the money, you can buy a convertible laptop with integrated wacom screen:

http://www.jessebandersen.com/2014/07/list-of-wacom-based-digitizer-pen.html

I read very good reviews about artists with drawing with their Fujitsu T902, but I don't try it myself yet.

The screen is smaller than a PC/MAC, but you draw directly in it and can draw outside.

Search a little to find if it is what you are looking for.

>Mac

No, don't even consider those. Too pricey, you could find a PC with the same specs for less than half the price of a mac.

By the way if your PC isn't old as fuck you could just upgrade your RAM (assuming it's not a laptop). Maybe there's no need for a new computer.

you could run all of that stuff fine on like a 5 year old desktop, which you could probably buy for a couple of hundred dollars.

if you're not really interested in computer games you can get a proper graphics card too with a whole bunch of extra ram for those things that need it.

hello, vir/g/in here. how much are you looking to spend? would you be interested in building a computer? it seems like an insurmountable task, if you have never done it before, but its much easier than you would think, as long as you can follow directions. i can reccomend a list of parts if your interested, and tell me your price range. its much cheaper to build your own computer than buying one.

pic related, computer i built

Get a mac if you have the money, you won't regret.

I don't even own apple stuff, because I'm a poorfag.
Macs are just a lot more optimized for this kind of shit and is shit at other things where PC is better in.

They really aren't, and a PC with twice as good spec will work way better.

A laptop, for Zbrush? What kind of faggot would do that? I use a desktop for any resource heavy programs.
>breaks down
Literally haven't had a desktop ever break down, not even the 12+ year old one I have. I had a monitor go - after ten years of continuous use.

And it's a fact that Macs use the same parts and charge more for them.

>> No.1957068

Yeah, spending all of a half-an-hour to find what part you need and ordering it, and then maybe 15 minutes to get it working, man that's really gonna eat into your time!

You're a dumbass.

A mac is good if you are less tech savy, just use a few programs and dont want to worry about anything. (and are willing to pay for it) I find that macs are a good option for artists alot of the time because of this.

windows machines are a bit less user freindly but they have more software, they are cheaper, upgradeable, more customizable.. ect. i recommend a laptop or prebuilt if you are familiar with windows, or on a budget, its not that hard to use. You will also get probably double the performance for the same priced mac.
Build a PC if you want to spend a bit more time researching and want more performance for your money. (it will also be higher quality hardware if you build it yourself)
