there isn't really any good female artist.
They usually gain technical skill, but when it comes to originality and expression they fail.

What i wrote is obviously not the exact reason but fact is, there are VERY FEW females wgo can draw and paint well.
They just can't do it.

I'm not going to argue there are good female artists since you're already set on this view and exanples would probably be dismissed.
Instead, consider wether there is any worth at all in judging a group of people and the art they make. There are males who do art and there isnt a single broad stroke that unites them. They all have different experiences and inspirations that have led them to where they are. Many bad, some good. So consider then that there isn't enough valid research to support that women are that different from men. We experience different social standards, and are drawn to different media because of demographics, which influences us throughout life. This leads to there being two different social cultures, man culture and the seemingly foreign woman culture.
Since there are not as many female professionals, there would statistically be less good ones than male ones.

You see, excuses.
and yes, observation is no.1 you have to gain as an artist. You don't copy it, it will show with your forms if you u derstand what is under that style.
you see how even more you got when i gave you a challenge where YOU can choose image?

And doing observational study is the only logical way to see which one of us understand form in space better (not directly copy).

I guarantee you that you don't have one third of knowledge and skill i have.
if you disagree, don't ve pussy and do the challenge.
otherwise stop pretending on annonimous board how good you are and how bad others are.

there are a lot of female artists who's work I love, but it's hard to argue the fact that there are a lot more really skilled male artists than female, and the very best artists are practically always all male.

not politically correct, but true. probably has to do with the fact that men are more driven to achieve than women, because a man has to achieve to be sexually relevant, while a woman only needs to have a functional uterus.

today? I doubt it, the field is pretty even. throughout all of art history? of course, due primarily to social factors.
> the very best artists are practically always all male.
again, historically this is generally true due to the sheer volume of male artists on the scene and the opportunities in gilds/apprenticeships/social acceptance. but in contemporary art? hardly inarguable.

>while a woman only needs to have a functional uterus
Women aren't encouraged to achieve because men only SEE them as a functional uterus. They don't step back and think "huh, I'm human, and I like to do things. Women are essentially human too. Maybe they would like to do things? Maybe they want to create things for themselves? Maybe they find learning a craft to be interesting and a fulfulling challenge?" Because clearly every woman will eventually find a man she can undoubtedly rely completely and utterly on, so she'd never need a career or job of her own. It seems like an odd choice though because it doesn't feed into her being "sexually relevant" which is obviously all women care about, because they need that man to support them. If there are more successful or skilled male artists, which is arguable, I'd say it's because women hear too much about what they "don't need" to do.

>men are more driven to achieve than women
This is true, but you're also forgetting men's superior visual-spatial intelligence, which has an impact one a person's ability to draw and see. It might be part of the reason why so many female artists rely on color and design, while men tend to be more technically skilled. I also can't help but notice that the vast majority of art in this thread consists of generic fantasy portraits, though that might just be a result of the person posting these pictures.

It's not just one person's opinion, the pressure comes from a lot of sources, and growing up with that, it's hard to suddenly step outside of it and realize you can make your own decisions and be what you want, not what people expect. But it's kind of moot, because obviously more and more women are pursuing what they want to do, regardless of whatever encouragement they may or may not get.

Don't be an idiot. You people tend to interpret everything the wrong way.
What people are saying is that men and women are different on so many levels that it's natural that men and women have varying interests and varying skills. A lot of women and easily offended people interpret this as women being less worth than men, when there is basically no connection between the two.

However, when people keep harping on the idea that women are always equal or better than men at everything, or the social pressure is the reason for women making different choices than men, you create a deep resentment in people, which is the real cause of misogyny in society. There's not a fucking gender war going on, but you people are pushing so hard for this that it's ridiculous. Differences between men and women are natural, and not a result of environmental factors or societal pressure.

It's not a matter of making women out to be victims either, because that would imply that I agree with anyone who lets discouragement stop them, and I don't. But it's only by acknowledging some of the obstacles women face, not just in pursuing a career in art but in any aspect of life, that we can help them see that they AREN'T bound by anyone's will but their own. Someone pointed out women and men are naturally different and that's true, and just as there are some problems specific to men, so there are for women, and it's good to discuss them to find ways to get past them.

Technical skill a lot more difficult to develop. Mastering color and design is primarily a matter of understanding and applying a set of principles. Technical skills like drawing require a lot more grinding and deep understanding of a subject.

Lots of female artists are great draftsmen, though. It's not true to say that women can't into technical skill. Still... there does seem to be a trend of female artists tending toward pretty, colorful subjects like portraiture and costume design. I don't think I've ever seen a female concept artist who specialized in hard-surface, perspective-heavy, industrial design stuff.

Are you this dense? Feminists complain that there aren't enough women in certain fields, when it's their own choice not to pursue these fields, because they want to "chase their dreams".
They've actually done studies on this, which shows that men have a much greater tendency to pursue a career they don't necessarily like, but that will give them a higher salary and influence. Women value a comfortable career and having more free time.

It's the choice between comfort and sacrifice. If you choose comfort, you do not have the right to criticize those who chose to sacrifice their comfort for a good career, and blame them for your own mediocrity.

Someone came in here to disrupt that with "lol daily reminder, men are better" when it wasn't ever supposed to be about which gender is better, it's just supposed to be looking at art. Nobody is going to change anyone's minds here, so let's just go back to posting and admiring art.

ok buddy then why do men continue to rape women and get free passes? why do men always get the jobs over women? why is the wage gap illegal yet women still get paid less? why do people disregard women doctors who have studied for years because they are women? why are many advertisements depicting rape scenes and battery against women and getting away with it (see dolce and gabanna, calvin klein)? why do i get groped for no reason by men when i'm on the elevated railway? why do people call others sluts when they wear short shorts but men can walk around with their shirts off and nothing is said?

....why are people saying that men are better than women and art when the only thing that makes you good at art is if you practice?

>> No.1925370 [DELETED]

And why do you say this? Do you believe this based on rational analysis of the given facts, or do you base this on your ideological belief, because you've been told your entire life that men and women are identical in every way?

Is there something inherently wrong with men being better or more interested in math? Is there something inherently wrong with women being more interested in working with people?

the sad part of all this debate is that females turn "there is less female artist and they are much less known as male artists" to "females are less worth than males".

Just to rage

But i bet you girls don't dare to argue about that where you aren't annonimous.
Not because someone will hurt you, but because you know that males are better at art.

Heh, what?
None of that happens. In fact, the opposite of this tends to happen. Accuse a man or rape, and you've destroyed his life, whether it's true or not. Women have fucking quotas that get them jobs over men, and it goes so fucking far that if there aren't an equal number of men and women, women can actually sue the employer, despite being less skilled. There is no wage gap. For the same work in the same career, it's dead even. Female doctors aren't ignored. In fact, I believe there are more female GPs than there are men, though I'm not really certain about this.

Have you ever left your house, or do you get all your information from tumblr feminists?

"FEMALE ARTISTS"

There was NEVER "male artists" thread (maybe bause all the inspiration /ic is getting from are 99% male artists).

IF gender doesn't matter, don't open threads like this.

Ohhh btw.. next time there will be "self promotion thread", notice how many males are there comparing to females ;)

This board is at least 80% used by males

No. If it's true.

All I'm saying is your argument is flawed. You're putting forth supposition. The "leveling off could mean many things, you're jumping to the conclusion that women "don't like math". Hell I could take that same graph and say women getting STEM degrees have been on the rise since the 70s, which is absolutely true without having to extrapolate any meaning other than what's in the graph.

but we're really fucking off topic. Here's some JenZee.

My point was to refute the other anon (or you) that women mostly major in liberal arts.

I'm not the op of this thread, but it's dumb to say you can't make a thread looking at art from a group. You can make a thread featuring Brazilian or Chilean art. Renaissance art. Any genre of art. Art from women should be no exception. It's just looking at art created by that group of people, not inherently trying to say art by that group of people is any better or worse than art by any other group of people. So many people just HAD to come in here to try to prove something, when they should have never felt threatened by what was merely supposed to be looking at art by various artists and possibly discussing their techniques.

Do you even know how many men had to go to jail, just because the woman who had sex or even was in orgy, accused men of rape because she didn't want to shame her parents or herself?

>> No.1925393 [DELETED]

>>1925379
There's a ton of research that backs up my argument, but most of all it's common sense.

The idea that there's such a huge disparity between men and women in STEM fields can't be explained by societal factors. You have to remember that these arguments are primarily supported by feminists, and is not based in any kind of research. You have sociologists that back this up, but sociologists tend to be driven by ideology and interpret the data to suit their needs.
On the other hand, there is a plethora of neurological research that more or less confirms the differences between men and women, both in motivation, intelligence and various cognitive functions.

Now, the big problem with this whole discussion is that it becomes, in my eyes, ideology versus science. I actually read a lot about this, because it interests me, and because I fucking hate dishonesty and propaganda more than anything else. I don't participate in these discussion because I hate women, I do it because I hate ideological driven lies that permeate society. Scientists and Harvard professors have gotten fired and discredited over this, purely on ideological reasons.

My position is very simple: I believe in equal rights for both men and women. I believe we should be allowed to pursue whatever we want. I belive we have different strengths, but this shouldn't stop someone from pursuing their interests. However, when one group chooses differently from the other, I don't believe the other side has a right to criticize this group for having made choices that make them more successful in certain fields.

Women need to understand that most men who argue against feminists, don't do this because they hate women, but they do this because they hate the slander of men and the victimization of women. Regardless of what you believe, this is what we believe. We don't hate women, though the rhetoric, defamation, shaming and hatred that feminists use, does cause genuine resentment and misogyny.

whats the point of comming into a thrad about woman artist and saying that woman are worse at drawing than men

is this supposed to discourage woman who are into art? make you feel better?

>> No.1925403 [DELETED]

>>1925387
That is true, in theory, but I have a strong feeling that the person who created the op is female and likely wanted to promote female art.

Of course, the problem is that women don't have any common ground aside from their gender. When you look at a style, an era or a country, you're looking at something specific.
When you choose female artists, you're only looking at the gender, and it's very likely that the only common ground these women might have is a feminist bent. You're looking at the person and not the art.

>> No.1925405 [DELETED]

>>1925387

there is absolutely no reason why should one seperate male artists from female artists.

The only reason i find OP opened tihs thread is because she is insecure. She knows very good that that males are better at drawing. That there is tons more well known male artists and female artists.
That's why she opened this thread. In hope to get replies with tons of good females' art. Just to give her a little hope she can make it despite that she is female.

But... if this kind of thread really makes you feel better, more comfortable, then have it.

Now i know why there never was "good male artists". Because good artists are mostly males.
And she and you are looking for those few females, who can compare to them.

That's not a problem, that's a benefit. Sure you're looking at art from a group of people who have one thing in common, like if you looked at Renaissance art for example, but then you analyze the individual styles and techniques. The differences within the group are the benefit of looking at art from the group.

Probably because most of the women studying art are doing it because they have a financial support structure to fall back on and it is "trendy" to be an "artist" while the males that do so are expected to earn a living and thus are more likely to compete for jobs (Just like any field. If you notice women aren't normally chastised for not being an earner while men are).

I'm just saying the janitor is being inconsistent. look through some of the posts I highlighted. their's still a bunch of "offensive" comments that haven't been deleted, and the ones that aren't offensive don't contribute anything to the thread, if you're just going to delete everything, do it right.

Focusing on negative differences in gender will 100% lead to sexism. Putting women on a pedestal will lead to positive sexism, which is also awful (positive sexism or racism is: "Women have small hands and are therefore good at crafts." or "Blacks are good at sports").

"A heated discussion" is a really neat euphemism. It would be a fair discussion if everyone had the same experiences, but we don't. A constructive way to deal with this would be actually to let others speak and listen to their life experiences.

Here's how these these "heated discussions" usually fold out: Someone will conclude that there aren't enough women in animation because it's their own fault or because they have some genetical or cultural drawback that prevents them from doing the work. The guy who had this idea will smuggly smile, feel better and will never hear how Disney refused to employ or educate female animators in his lifetime. And he will never actually see workplace sexism first hand. It is a position of comfort and lots and lots of people love being in this position because actually listening to the other side would break their view of them in the world.

Focus on the similarities instead, and you'll see that there isn't really such a huge gap between the genders. You'll see the humanity and the efforts of people who are different. Just like this thread does. The women who made all this art are all clever, interesting people who worked tons and struggled just like you or me.

>A constructive way to deal with this would be actually to let others speak and listen to their life experiences.

Yeah but like you said people just seem to ignore/delete anything that doesn't fit their agenda. There's plenty of female artists working in the entertainment industry today who say that not only are they not discriminated against but are actively supported.

>Women have small hands and are therefore good at crafts." or "Blacks are good at sports").

Of course blanket statements like these are objectively wrong (and possibly offensive) due to their wording. Now if you were to suggest that the reason there are more technically proficient male artists than female is because "men on average have one standard deviation higher spatial intelligence quotient than women" is that sexist?
Black people, due to genetic differences are more likely to be better sprinters than white people, is that racist?

This is what I'm getting at, how are you supposed to create a sensible discourse if you can't even discuss these things without someone blindly swinging the ban hammer?
Personally I think we should celebrate our differences and not pretend that we are all the same, because we're not, and there's no shame in that.

people in this thread called woman cunts and similar, didnt listen to a word they said and downplayed their experiences

and thats every discussion about gender differences on 4chan.

Whats the point of comming into a thread about woman artist and saying men are better?
Is this making the person who said this feel better about themselves, will this make their own art better? Does it give them an ego boost? Does it feel good to maybe discourage some woman who start out with art?

On the top of it, in art woman and men do draw difference, but neither is superiour to the other. There is no point comming into this thread and shitting over woman artist and saying nature made them bad at art.

With listening to other people, I mean precisley YOU listening and looking on this from another perspective.
Just a quick question: Do you work?
Because I never had any trouble with sexism in school or in the studies, but it hit me in the face with full force in the workplace. Stories from sexism, glass ceilings and awful pay streamed in from all over the place, from my coworkers to the freelancers to my boss telling us about structures in other companies. I suddenly realized that the wage gap in my parent's jobs wasn't an accident, even though my mom has the higher education.

>Now if you were to suggest that the reason there are more technically proficient male artists than female is because "men on average have one standard deviation higher spatial intelligence quotient than women" is that sexist?

Hmmm, let's see... that statement reduces the fact that there are far less women in the entertainment industry than men on a tiny difference that might be there or might not be there. Where do you get your statistic from?
Also there are artists out there that are colorblind or have different kinds of disabilites. Are you sure that just one tiny thing preventing women from working?
Btw, you are using a bullshit arguement called bio-truths, gladly used by fedora wearers and idiots. Google it to see how deep the rabbit hole goes.

Women are celebrated in entertainment?
Notice how many women artist there are at an average gallery opening, or how many work on a comic book series, or how many women directed animated series or big animations (there are some, but the overal majority are men.)

Again, this is all I have just told will happen: Some idiot will come around and will try to justify injustice to stay comfortable in his safe world view. And you happen to be that guy, jeez.

What I wrote, before you butchered my quote was:

>Now if you were to suggest that the reason there are more technically proficient male artists than female is because "men on average have one standard deviation higher spatial intelligence quotient than women" is that sexist?

I'm clearly referring to the difference in numbers as a percentage of the population. I'm not saying spatial awareness is the be all and end all of what makes a good artist either, but it's something to look into, and could account for the reason why we there are MORE proficient male artists than female. If you think that makes me an asshole then fine, I just think that reflects badly on you, I know it's a contentious topic, but don't jump to conclusions.

I think the societal factor is far more relevant. Men were encouraged to flourish in art related areas while women were stifled in nearly everything. It's only very recently (in terms of the human race) that it's become acceptable for women to pursue art, or much else for that matter. Still even now, as evidenced by this thread, it still isn't really acceptable for women to be considered on the same level as men, with quite a few not even really believing it's possible.

I hope this isn't too off topic but how the heck can you even plan out a picture for pixel art? Like how do you do a layout or a gesture? Or do you do that separately and make a grid?? Because these ones especially are pretty complicated, but I guess they could have been freehanded, like they drew the lineart with pixels and just kept refining and adding to it.

>> No.1926254

Some people do lineart, for really tiny sprites you can just start pixel-by-pixel. Personally I prefer to treat it like a painting and block everything in with a tablet, using progressively smaller opaque brushes. I've also pixelled over paintings or sketches.

not enough of them get past the "behold! my fanny" stage which does for them really. If you look at a lot of the top female western artists they're all going on about their meat flaps, meanwhile the autistic kid down the road is doing his version of War and Peace in the garage. It's not even a conspiracy, just the way it goes.

quite a simplistic version of the truth. Not every man is trying in earnest to understand the meaning of life through paint, pencil, clay or any other meaningful medium of expression. Like any reasonable artist, you start with a subject you know best- yourself. From there you move onto issues you have an understanding of and interest in discussing through your work. Your "Behold! my fanny" stage is just that. You could easily draw the comparison of someone like Van Gogh to be the male equivalent. "Behold! my tortured soul".

i like these, i just obsess with pencilwork and nice structure. But they're just basically constructed with good foundation, and really nice classic style painting. And despite the subject matter, they look timeless. Kind of reminds me of linran... cept linran has that stuff I obsess with.

I've seen this painting around. I'm sure it's very popular. I never played those games. But this picture is what keeps them in my thoughts. I don't have too much to say about fantasy illustration/card/game character art, it's almost always beautiful, but there's something unappealing about most of it, to me. This is a really great piece though, definitely catches me off guard.

>>1929526
I know man hair is highly under-rated for subject matter. There are so many patterns and styles. Hair has it's own form. Another dude to check out is John Ryan Solis, I don't know how active he is. IMO he's not as good as the art you posted but it's still nice to look at.

>>1926757
Pretty much agree with >>1927283 on this artist. I love Amano but when I think of how Nomura transforms Amano's work. I'm beginning to think there's something highly appealing about taking an Amano design and fleshing it out further. We tease Nomura, I certainly have laughed. But consider that some of the Dissidia designs are fleshed out versions of Amano FF concepts. And it's actually good work!

>>1926719
Yup I'll always eat this stuff up.

>>1926552
Just wanna comment briefly. This is a good artist, but I wish they would experiment more. I don't think it's enough to rely on the digital tools. You definitely need more. And I understand it's for a job. Just yapping.

>>1925995>>1925980>>1925947
It's hard to enjoy these in their digital form. I'm guilty of not showing enough appreciation for traditional paintings. However I've been to museums. I've seen how gorgeous an oil on wood painting can be. I don't think a picture online or in a book will ever serve justice to how much technique, the scale, and beauty in color that these paintings look like in real life. You have to see them in person. One example is a Peter Paul Rubens. Seriously, one look at a Rubens, and all of your favorite artists will be temporarily forgotten.

That's lovely. And yeah your post is on point. I do get frustrated when I read about feminist issues myself. I gotta close it out it's stressful, I think I am sexist. But women are funny, they can sing, they can paint, and they can be killers. I bow down.

>>1925475
And it's nice to see an intact marble white statue!

>>1925456
Yeah would probably be incredible in person. And this goes for all the paintings in the thread. I'm now realizing how fortunate I've been to be able to go to museums. I'm gonna mark down these painters.

>>1925451
haha! slamming love it, thank you anon. That bear doll is actually the beacon of awesome in my eyes.

>>1925433
A beaming spot light on a tiger in fog? Just reminds me how many directions you can take a painting. Nothing new under the sun, but ALWAYS, infinite possibilities to explore.

>>1925415
What you said about /ic/s love is a low blow, but I'd agree with you each time I see pictures like that. But it doesn't matter. When someone kicks ass and takes names, even oversensory shit, with thought in design, can be appealing.

>>1925207
Is there an exploration for when an artist handles out of focus parts with such high decoration? I think the use of color on the clothing is what helps focus on what's important. As I type I'm realizing how important it is to comment on what's working in good art.

>>1925085
I disagree, her work is great. Pretty recognizable in a sea of anime. Great use of ink and storytelling.

There's a certain, petty or ignorant? nature, to your reply. I promise I come in peace though anon. I don't think it's your fault, and I totally get it. It's good that you observed. Here is what I've gathered over my visits to /ic/ the under-rated art community. I see a lot of posts like this.

This is SUPER arguable. It isn't all of you either. Some of you are seemingly illiterate to the language of storytelling, in art. Even the young artists who are worshipped for their beautiful technique and slavery to anatomy studies, are lacking here. I do think many of you are subconsciously, already aware of this, in your own explorations.

Good illustration programs cover this. Touchy subject, school is quite expensive, but it is the unmentioned advantage of art school. Still, this information is FREE/cheap with your time. This is explored outside of those programs. Going to museums/galleries or shows. Reading history and books, watching movies, following blogs and communicating with other artists.

What this image to me is an example of good storytelling. Sometimes good storytelling is not revealing everything. The mystery is a powerful element, it almost becomes a hidden art fundamental, in an illustration. You are curious about why the blade is in his hand? But did you ask why the artist chooses to leave that detail out? There's more to it. I understand this is for some game card. But the artist probably spent a good portion of time designing the idea.

In my eyes this is successful storytelling. It is an image opening many prompts. Maybe he just finished removing it with a bare hand? Was she going to kill herself? Was she pointing the knife at him? He used his charm, or manipulated the blade from her hand. Is this is about living? Maybe the female figure coerced him out of a violent suicide?

This artist wants to use her painting skill to explore storytelling. That is what we study for. A bowl of fruit is a tale.

funny that you say that because lol art in particular is very broken and based on first impression rather than being well made. That one in particular is a fairly recent offender. They're made to sell at a glance, you aren't meant to look at it and see how sloppy it was made. Thought i guess leagues bad art is one of it's champ points or something. They seem very against hiring good artists.

what a weird thing to say. if art looks good, it IS good. That's all art is.

Do you realize how tiny a minority people who are as nitpicky about art as d/ic/ks are? 99% of the people who look at those LoL illustrations don't give a flying fuck if it's "broken" or "sloppily made"... whatever that even means. As long as it looks cool, they'll think it's awesome, which means it's a success for all intents and purpose. If art directors only hired artists who /ic/ liked... they'd all be fighting over the same couple dozen artists.

I think a lot of people on here suck all the joy out of art for themselves with their ridiculously pedantic perfectionism. That Yumedust pic is fucking rad. It goes without saying that it's much better than anything you've ever made. Why can't you just enjoy art for what it is, instead of holding it to some impossible standard?

But it's like they're one-hit wonders. Once in a while you'll get a Kinkade or Liefeld. It happens when it's the 80s/90s, middle america, and there's no internet, rockwell died so you have to settle for this garbage, you never heard of frank frazetta, so you had no idea that Conan existed. If art is subjective, then why do the great artists always get work and adoration over many many years? You don't really hear about these lesser artists all that much, if you do it's because you're already following their work.

There is definitely a pattern when it comes to good technique and craft.
