1898501 No.1898501 [Reply] [Original]

Saw this today at a coffee house and made me furious /ic/, this piece of shit here is a waste of canvas.

Why do we practice drawing when shithead bullshitters sell shit like this for 1250 dollars?

>> No.1898514

>>1898501
I'm pretty sure they don't sell. My favorite local restaurant has had the same 5 art pieces that are in the same vein of work as that for about two years now.

If it sold it wouldn't be on the wall. Anyone can try to sell something for any price.

I hope it doesn't sell too, but just to have the audacity to call it art in itself is pissing me off.

Most importantly, there are pieces like this displayed in art galleries and museums, what is with modern/postmodern/contemporary art? Why are they art?

It's not a waste of canvas, there are plenty of canvases out there.

And we most certainly don't draw for money.

So there is nothing lost, no need to be alarmed. It doesn't get in the way of your studies.

yes it is. I took a shit today, smeared over toilet paper, looked like a face too.

Who are "we"?

If you draw like this then you are wasting canvas as well, and no, it doesn't get in the way of my studies, as I draw not for money, I wouldn't try to sell any of my drawings. Certainly not some lines I scribbled that looks like a face and call it art.

Have fun being stagnant in the art world. I assume your head in stuck up your ass and only accepts semi realistic representational art as art.

But don't worry, OP's pic creator is also stagnant. Nothings new in it.

so don't sniff assholes. you could be making art, or at the very least making threads about technique or inspiration. instead you're sniffing shit and sneezing.

>>1898681
I'm not in the art world, neither do I desire to be, if make shit and bullshit the deep meaning behind shit to sell is art, then I'd rather stay far away.

I'm merely a bystander seeing the truth. At least realistic representation requires skill, time and dedication to master the trade, art is a trade, no?

If one produces such piece that all humanity can replicate, where is the "master of the trade?" Who upon us can't scribble, who can't write sentences?

Does simply making things declare you an artist? Does writing words make you a writer?

When you try to write like Mark Twine, Cormac McCarthy, you can't, when you try to paint like Michael Angelo, Da Vinci, you can't. Thus make them inspirational, make them the master of their trade.

Just because someone bullshit you in buying into the "modern art", doesn't make it truly valuable. No matter how much packaging you wrapped it around with, what is shit, is always shit.

Why do people act like it's such a virtue to not be "doing art for money?"

The best artists have the skills AND the business sense, just look at Vilppu. If you love what you do then better chance of monetizing it successfully.

I took shit today, diarrhea, with lines perfectly streamed from top to a piece of bile at the bottom, going through mountains of froth and debris and specks of feces, with yellow and brown merging together in the middle, as a if a face submerged and emerging from under. It's truly a master piece, would you be interested in purchasing, selling for a hundred dollar only.

I like them all (though I'm not a fan of Rothko's mature work).

However, I'm not the normative opinion here on /ic/. I can save you the poll and tell you most people on this board think the abstract expressionists are all hacks with literally zero talent who were successful only due to marketing and the CIA. If you want to have an intelligent discussion about modernism, contemporary art, or the avant garde, his is not the most conducive environment.

I think the only way to stop it is by not caring about it.
Don't bother looking at it, don't bother getting upset about it.
If it's a trend it will pass in time out of disinterest.
