How do you learn a shading style? I want to pick up some really strong contrast like the Gurren Lagann eyecatches or Yuji Himukai's style, but I can't really wrap my head around it.

iPad 4 camera, and I fiddle with the brightness and contrast cause I have a really bad point light source that over exposes some parts.

The immediate impression is appealing, yet it also seems obvious you made many design choices based on low difficulty. There is no range or challenge in the posing and expression, and sloppiness in those areas (clothing folds, hands) where you did not take direct inspiration from other cartoonists (the facial features).

Such styles really work best as a simplification and distillation of an artist's diverse skills, rather than something you start out with.

Not that guy, but this is what I do (some anons say it doesn't work though)

You have to rewrite the image metadata that has the rotation info. The ipad viewer uses the rotation data to show the image right side up, but the rotation data is not uploaded to 4chan

Also, it helps if you hold the iPad at a very slight angle so the accelerometer helps to tell the camera which side is up. For some reason, landscape works better than portrait.

I dunno how no one noticed that, but the face and the hair are going in two different directions.
Other things that stick out are the edgy chin and the tense shoulders. They shouldn't be that horizontal.
As you can see, I'm not really a pro with legs, but the pose you choose for them looks really uncomfortable and drawing the legs frontal like that looks flat.

Overall it's a good design and looks really cute, but careful, flip the canvas a lot, that should help.

Getting high off markers. Things started out in the right direction. I was going to practice perspective with some scenery. Then I decided I wanted to try rendering with no line work.

I don't know what happened. I got bored with the bottom left, ran out of ink in my pocket brush and didn't want to refill. Realized I was wasting a lot of copic ink and suddenly it's 530

Kinda wasted today... only thing I learned was I suck at rendering, but I already knew that

I think these look pretty nice for a first effort. Then again, maybe the bar for okay backgrounds is pretty low since most beginners just avoid them completely and are therefore still shit at them when they're otherwise intermediate.

I'm not really sure what's going on in the cityscape in the middle, that stripe (highway? bridge?) is kinda throwing me off.

Perspective on the girls leg on the bottom one seems a bit extreme compared to the enviroment.

On the one with the more natural scenes the top one looks good, but you messed up the perspective on the bottom one when you went into rendering, it made more sense in the initial sketch.

There isn't really any quick way to find perspective outside of using a grid. For small character drawings, it's mostly just intuition, rather I imagine where limbs foreshorten based on where the vanishing point(s) would be.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the notes—they're mostly for myself so I make sure not to forget what I want to do. Because of classes I can rarely just sit down and draw for an hour or two straight, so I write notes to make sure my thoughts don't go to waste. Plus it's good reference to look back to, I think. Even if it's wrong.

Nah, let me tell you a little secret that's pretty popular these days. It actually completely replaced floating dicks in 90% of all hentai artwork, because like I said, floating dicks suck. Ghost the dude so that the outline is there, but you can see the girl through him. Makes the entire piece come together nicely, and takes away the feeling that the girl is being raped by an fleshy floating, vibrating, disembodied dick. About that. It's because it has nothing to do with your digital drawing, you are claiming you are better with pencil because you can draw faster with it and hence you are already dismissing your work as crap (which it is incase you haven't inferred that) and you are unconsciously using it as an emotional safety net, that if they don't like my digital drawings, I always have the pencil.

If you think I'm being harsh, it just that I find your personality utterly pathetic and I think your attitude is an absolute detriment to any improvement.

The deformation on the tits looks someone took a piece off playdough and threw it at the railing at high speed mainly because

a) each tit looks like it's dividing into 2 parts instead of curving and deforming like a bag of soft fluffy tit fat

b)the top side of the tits, even after faced with a tension point below does not curve according to logic where pressure built up from adding pressure to the tits should result in other points curving outwards (put some water or air in a balloon the grip it or put some wide-ish area pressure on the surface for reference). Tits pretty much work in the same way as balloons filled with water and most other Newtonian liquid albeit with a bit more resistance than water but not enough to make it look like playdough.

but in any case, it's best not to deform tits too much, it makes the whole composition of the drawing look... less fun
