Does anyone here have a non traditional pencil grasp?

Basically I was homeschooled and my parents are retarded and I developed a pencil grasp where my pencil rests on my ring finger.

i think it kind of affects my writing in some way or another cause my handwriting has always been utter shit

Yeah I hold it a bit weird I think. If you touch all five of your fingertips together then have a pencil in the center of it that's how I hold it. I doubt it makes much difference in your writing though how you hold it. Doesn't affect my art at all.

>> No.1865319

I hold the pencil both ways, but at different angles/lengths of the pencil, same goes for a brush.

both of those hands are holding the pencil like you're writing with it which is a common rookie mistake

this is tbe proper way to hold your pencil while drawing with it, moving with the wrist and keeping it stable when you use your forearm for broader strokes.

Why does it fucking matter? Next you'll tell us how to grip your mouse because it affects your aim in fps which then I will tell you get a better mouse.

>> No.1865338

>>1865337
yes it does matter. you'll never see a professional pencil artist holding their pencil the wrong way. there is a proper way to hold your pencil while you sketch, just like there's a proper way to hold a guitar while you play it and a proper way to type on a keyboard.

That's not true. Achadobu held his pencil super fucking strangely and he could draw ridiculously well. So long as the pencil hits the paper it doesn't matter how you hold it so long as it feels natural to you.

The distance between the grip and the tip of the lead, and the firmness of your grip, matter more than how you grip.

my friends draws with grip of his whole hand and writes that way too.it looks painful.

See the one that says 2-3 years? try that one now and then. otherwise known as the overhand grip or the gesture grip its good for drawing long lines.

that's the weird way i hold my pencil for writing, i'm left-handed so perhaps it has something to do with that. obviously for drawing i use whatever grip the situation calls for..maybe all my grips are unorthodox versions though. who knows.

I knew this guy in middle school that used all his fingers just to hold a pencil. His penmanship was so terrible; the teacher yelled at him. She gave up trying to learn his cryptography and said she would just give him zeros if he submitted more garbage.

I hold the pencil with my thumb, index, middle, and ring finger.
I have no idea if this is helpful for drawing or bad, since the ones in OP looks like the thumb is just sorta -there- instead of supporting the pencil with its tip.

I do. the pencil actually sticks out the opposite way.

I learned to write/hold a pencil at a very young age. Learned from my sister who is left handed who, trying to emulate a right handed person, learned incorrectly.

I'm basically on the retard end of the pencil holding spectrum. Will post pic if curious.
