Why not? This is a very tempoary community, people come and post some stay for a while others leave? The people are constantly changing in and out so the only way to remember is to save pieces you enjoy, a lot of them will not be put up on any other place on the web. So if you want to see them again you've gotta save them.

Even at a pretty high skill level, you will still feel that lingering doubt and insecurity in yourself. One example is from Jana when she was still in sixmorevodka. She made a post about having that deep doubt and insecurity about herself in terms of art.

It does not completely ends, and might even increase, but you should teach yourself to compartmentalize art and personal life as separate entities. Be critical of your work without beating yourself.

There's some flawed logic. Also we don't even know his situation, he may have had some external factors in his life that are causing problems. We don't know how related it is to his art, just that it had an effect on it (or at least his online presence). It may just be a chemical imbalance in the brain. You have not experienced the doubt that comes with attaining skill yet. The idea that your work has to be at a certain "level" before you can publish it or why bother? There's countless (because if you start looking almost everyone has experienced it) artists who've doubted themselves. This happens especially when they get a following at a certain size. They don't mention this publicly of course but from meeting artists at workshops I can tell you it's super common to feel like shit a bout your art. This doesn't mean that it isn't the most enjoyable thing you can do when you're at a high skill but simply that the work you make doubt yourself "How could I have made something like this?" etc.

Who decides that but the artist? Some artists obviously have studied a lot (and don't trace) but can't find more than a small sampling of their study work. Because they never uploaded everything or made it public. I dunno who this Jace is and if he really traces or not, but there's also a lot of assuming that your standards reflects a whole board. Pretty good knowledge on the female form, can rock the soft brush like no other, creates sensual subjects without getting into erotic sector too much, he's not shy to use strong and off colors, using emphasis on strong shapes in his paintings of his figure, has a contemporary art nouveau vibe with all that strong graphic elements to complement his composition, and lastly, he draws pretty chicks.

I like it. But it's pretty understandable if you can't get into it.

I think kids are being misled if they think you can get shading done that well. There are great shaders, like Loopy Dave, but still his stuff looks totally different to this Jace guy. There's a level of control and consistency missing in Jace's work.

Dead giveaway for tracing is that they usually have somewhat accurate outline, but bad everything else, and can't even describe the form using values well. The figure will also usually be super stiff. Another is that there will be some weird distortions if the tracer is using a distorted photo. Yes, that gregory guy obviously traces.

Nope. Greg has shitty outlines, but fantastic value. That's because he uses a filter on the photo, which keeps all the knowledge of natomy, but traces the outline by hand, which removes some knowledge of anatomy. In other words, where one muscle group overlaps another, you get a break in the outline, using two convex shapes. Whereas a noob tracer will just draw a concave outline.

The stale figures only applies if they aren't distorting it using distort, liquify first.

The "now" pic you show I wouldn't say was traced.

I'll get round to looking at his videos but if they don't show the process of making the images that look traced, I don't see what this proves.

The dude is the very definition of comfort zone as he's only drawn nothing but pretty girls for years, and you seem surprised that he is able to draw them well? I could go about drawing nothing but jaguars for years and become pretty good at that, but sucky at everything else. You also seem to not understand that using multiple references is very possible. That doesn't mean that anything was traced, but that he used references to fill in gaps in his visual library - something that every representational artist worth a damn does.

The guy is good, and I like his work, but there's nothing mind-boggingly impressive about it. The level of his work is expected given how specialized it is and how long he's been doing it for. You'd expect similar results from practically any artist doing the same routine and thinking critically about what you're weak at.

If you have years of experience drawing the sameface girl over and over, then it's possible you drew that without tracing in just an hour. There are enough anatomical and construction errors that warrant further investigation, and without anything else to see I can't conclude whether it must be a tracing or not. Hence why I said

If you provide me with your full body of work, from sketches to finished paintings, then yes I would be able to tell if it's traced. From this one image it's also possible that you just utilized reference poorly.

Not quite, since we have an entire backlog of Jace's work showing clear, slow progression over a span of years. There isn't anything to suggest that Jace's picture was traced instead of simply using references.

Furthermore, if Jace is just a tracer, he has a large enough backlog of paintings that SOMEONE would have found a source image and made a gif overlay by now, but I've never seen one. It's usually pretty easy to be outed as a tracer if you have that many paintings on the internet with thousands of eyes that just need to recognize ONE image.
