Hey ic I'm looking for some good examples or resources for face studies that have clear reference to go with it. As you can see the only one I have found is pretty bad. Help?

>> No.1852371

The reference aint that bad, but you are not even seeing the damn face, clusterfuck of wrong facial/head and proportion and aligment.

if your excuse is "it was just a doodle" "just for practice" , then take your damn time.

I agree, but im looking examples of images being referenced so I can use those same references. Its for practise more than anything

fun fact, you can use reading comprehension to decipher that OP didn't draw this picture

that left eyebrow is a bitch as it's as close to looking like an angry expression as possible without being one
Even the study looks both angry and not depending on which you're trying to see

Timeout.
I'm confused.
Does OP want pictures of drawings that happen to be faces
Or does he want actual faces?

>> No.1853173

>>1853171
Sorry should clarify. At this point in time its better to have drawn pictures of faces since actual references are easy to come by.
So any good examples of drawn faces are appreciated. I often think it is overlooked and the extra paid attention to it could avoid any 'samefaces' or your typical blank face you always see when someone does an image.

when you're doing these kinds of studies they aren't for makeing an exact replica, but capturing the essence of the pose and what it's trying to see while also maiking it better

don't use colours, just b&w until you get the proportions and tones right.
Don't resize the image, use the same size.

so how do you guys approach drawing faces?

I'm trying to get good at faces and already tackled symbol drawing, perspective, form, proportions, and riley rhythms. What my faces lack now are likeness.

From what I researched I need to study angles and values next.

Anything else I need to add?
What are some of your methods if you'd like to add?

Read up on Pyle's notes on the classification of light and shadow, it'll help with a lot of the problems you're having overall - some drawing issues aside.

Mainly, though, the parts that talk about where to indicate and denote texture, and how to separate your shadows and lights in value.

>> No.1853865

>>1852482

i remember this being posted when some anon talked about relative values. anyone know what exactly that is? why does it matter in this particular image?

Not him, but I just googled for it since I realized that I've never actually read Pyle's notes despite his fame as a teacher...any links to it? I was pretty pissed to discover that the underpaintings site now requires you to pay to just view the posts. Wtf man. Used to be a great site, so sad to see it like that now.

polishing a turd doesnt mean its shit, it means theres a fundamental problem that no level of detalining or slight tweaking can fix (In this case the positioning of the facial featires are off.)
