Painters who are very good at compression of detail, making things work with very little means, and even if their paintings are complex everything is subordinated to the whole.

The search term that most easily comes to mind is "woodblock print japan"


Lots of cool things can be made with it, you prepare the paint on a wooden block that you then roll over the canvas, some really famous paintings have been made using that technique. Ofcourse you have to make everything fit into layers upon layers (especially things like this)


It's an interesting limitation because it makes it so that they only use 4-5 different colors (otherwise it's too much work to make just one print)
