Looks nice, there's some issues but still.
Looks like you do need to draw with more form or structure (esp. neck). It shows in the details. Also you have subtle proportion issues (legs to upper body/limbs to torso as far as I can tell)

>i'm still a beginner, so please don't judge me too hard
No.
It's the beginners that need it the most. Nobody is going to skimp out on your critique, which is meant to make you better, just because your feelings might get hurt. Suck it up, learn not to get so attached to your work so that you can improve, and never take it personally or ask people to go easy on you.

>I still don't quite understand photoshop
Go to ctrlpaint, watch the videos about photoshop and painting. Work on line quality as well, being a good draftsman is important for being a good painter.

Critique.
>Design
Not a fan. For something like this you need to know about the principles of design, basic 2d/3d forms, and anatomy.

You need to know about design because it tells you how to handle color or how to balance out a design. Silhouettes are important as well, did you think about the big picture before you went on to the details? Get an idea first - Is it dangerous or friendly? Then, if you saw only the shadow or silhouette, would it come across as such? This isn't important for you right now but you should know about it at least.

A lot of this is impractical. Why are his thighs skin and nothing else? What's with the skin on his feet? If he is a cyborg, do you really think they would replace everything below the knee but save a few scraps of skin? No. If this is a suit, again, why? It's strange.

Think about looks but at the same time, you need to keep in mind practicality. Too much focus on aesthetic makes things silly or unbelievable. Too much utility is boring. There is a balance.

Reference. You need it, badly. When you have an idea of what you are going to design, you gather references of things you need and study them. If you don't know what something looks like, don't just guess or make shit up. Work with something based in reality and it will be more believable. If you want to be able to draw things from memory (or a visual library) google "the shrimp method".

Stop hiding hands. Or is he supposed to have nubs there? It's impractical so I'm assuming not. Draw every single part of the body, never leave anything out unless you have a very good reason to do so. Especially draw the things you hate, so draw lots of hands and get better at them.

Your anatomy is very off. With a subject like this it shows even more than it normally would. You should have an understanding of musculature and bone structure as well as some machinery before you do something like that. It was a good attempt but you need work.

You need work on gesture. It's so so stiff and unnatural. He's sticking his neck out and at the same time is pretty relaxed, but then he has these stiff arms. Do gestures as a warmup before you draw, and you do have to draw every part of the person to the best of your ability. That means hands too.

Anyways, you want to look into the principles of design first, they're important for things like composition but also design. Just look over them and get an understanding, you can come back and get more in depth later.
Work on your line quality first so you can put your lines where you mean to. Then you want forms and a little perspective, and values. Then gesture and anatomy, learning how to represent body parts with the simplest forms possible while still retaining the basic structure. Then more detailed anatomy for things you don't understand.

You can do this. I believe in you, which may not be immediately apparent from the rants but I do this because I want to see you, some random dude, get awesome. So fucking do it.

but it's minor really, since your facial features are also a bit darker than in the original... maybe i'm just nitpicking. but i hate just posting "beautiful" without giving atleast food for thought.

Can you explain this a bit more? Full opacity always engaged means it would be impossible to blend colours through the brushstroke. And it's hard as fuck blending in PS with the smudge tool.

I go with opacity set to pen pressure, and just press fairly hard for most of my strokes, and press lighter when I need to find a blended value. The other technique I've seen used is to set the brush opacity to a static opacity by between 50-90% so that you can still blend.

you can blend very efficiently with the smudge tool once you get the hang of it and adapt/make your own brushtips with the settings you need

(use tool presets!)

you can also change your brush settings so that your brushes use pen-pressure-opacity (PPO) but you can have them cap at 60%. also with some brushes you can achieve a very nice softness by changing the settings so that as you press lower on your wacom the flow is reduced, with or without at the same time reducing opacity. this makes it possible to blend very nicely with textured brushes, even if one has minimal or no PPO enabled.

lastly theres the mixer brush which is incredibly powerful but takes a while to figure out.

i wanna get to the refining and adding stuff part but im not moving much from the thumb stage because im confused about the light.
The scene is supposed to be night time, the moon is behind the figures but i want the figures to be seen so whats lighting them up?
I may have it wrong but i dont think the figures could be illuminated if the moon is behind them and there are no artifical lightsources in front of them. But If there was no light in front/on a side they would result in almost black silohuettes no?
Should the reflected moonlight lighten them?
If the skys clean with no clouds should the moon cast strong shadows of the knights toward the viewer?
How would different figures look with no other light than strong moonlight around night time(0.00-3.00am)?

Edgework is terrible. You have a lot of soft edges where hard edges would work better and vice versa.

The lights under her mouth look too bright. The neck is too thick, and the ear might be a bit high considering how downward her head is angled. It looks like we're seeing her right eye (our left) from slightly above, but her left eye from a level height.

The hair is also a patchy uncontrolled mess. Look up Gurney Ribbon Technique on google, and I'd also check out Proko's two hair videos on youtube. For the values, either the darks are too dark, or the lights are too light.

Use guide-lines for everything. If you use any of the How to Draw Manga books, the guides for eyes, ears, the nose and mouth, the scalp and the hairline are there to help you not need them over time, not toss them out from the very start and end up with unintentionally messed up glasses and eyes.

Also, draw the head without the hair first.
Now, fill this page with many busts of this character. The white of the page is there for just that.

Not bad anon. Try to control your values and shapes a bit more though. Yopu have some sloppy shapes in there and the values can be simplified more. You have some areas like the shadow area of her dress with too many values there, and the face is patchy with lots of little value jumps. Try to treat it more in flat simple large masses of value. Also watch out sometimes you can go a bit darker in shadow on some things like the hair.

just posting faster than i can formulate sentences

i like your values and the value range very much
but
your painting looks messy - simplify and flatten areas
keep details and high-contrast hard edges to areas of interest (monsters face, hands, mans head, gun etc)
you can leave lots of edges between dark areas very soft
willingly use hard versus soft edges to communicate form better (pic related, an exercise i did for that)
btw, this temp layers thing on ctrlpaint is very useful but youll be on the best way if you could achieve that with effective brushwork (goes along with simplifying values with effective brushwork)

Point for one is being able to reproduce what is in front of you. The Bargue plates start out with "simple" forms and values and build up. When you draw from nature you will need to reproduce what is in front of you and be able to perceive the values in front of you, which is harder since the world is not in greyscale.
Also builds taste for classical art.
