I'm pretty amazed that a board called "artwork and critique" still hasn't got a thread about Art Basel, so I guess I'll start my own.

Which galleries would you like to see the most?

Which artist do you think is gonna make an impression this year?

Any favorites of your own?

For me I think Oscar Murillo is gonna sell a lot like he did in Art Cologne. Is kind of amazing how young he is if you think about it.

This board is about illustration. I wish I could talk about art some place on 4chan because it's such an insidious world and it needs a channel other than howsmydealing to talk about it.

Anyway, literally nobody else here is interested in anything going on at basel, OP. I'm sorry.

That is too bad, maybe I didn't understand this board as well as I thought. Anyway since I already created the thread what is your opinion on the subject. Do you have any favourites?

How the fuck would you know what other people are interested in. This is a better post than 75% of the shit on ic.

Art basil is a shit show unfortunately. I've been to a couple and it is the last place in the world where you would want to go to appreciate art. It's just were people go to talk about money.

The podcast Bad at Sports usually covers them if you want to hear people talk about art basil and interview artists or curators. It's better than actually going.

Unfortunately I cannot go since I have to work throughout the week and weekend and its a shame because I had preview tickets. I would like to see the Gagosian booth since there wasn't one in Art Cologne, I'm interested in Carroll Dunham's paintings, also Anton Kern though they are not bringing any of their Ohlen's work. Apart from that I don't know, I worked for a gallery in Art Cologne this year and also visited ARCO, but is in Basel were everybody is bringing out the big guns (considering that the attendance fee for a gallery in Basel is around 50.000€ its kind of normal), I remember that my boss told me that for this show they would be bringing two Sigmar Polkes so go figure.

Art fairs are always about money, but if you are interested in the art world or the art market then its always a must. This fairs are so big that in my opinion there is always something that is going to let you down but I wouldn't say "it is the last place in the world where you would want to go to appreciate art", it's a great opportunity to see really what is booming in the art world, and to see a lot of great works in one place. But that is just my opinion.

bumping because i would really like to be able to talk about the artworld but we can't do it here because d/ic/ks get mad when someone makes money on anything that isn't representational.

Actually OP do you have an instant messenger address or anything

Also, dude, preview tickets and you turned them down? You'd genuinely be rubbing elbows with some of the richest people in the world.

Yes
That's how the world works.

>"Oh you used to be an X and do Y? I need an X to do Y, here's a million dollars" or
>"I like the cut of your jib. Have you met my daughter? Here's a million dollars"
