Just watched it. Good Documentary.

Waiting until historians want to put an asterisk next to his paintings in art history books.

And people complain that people do photobashing in concept art of all things.

Vermeer 10/10 tracer scum would hang in buckingham palace.

You really think he is scum for tracing? This is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo different from photobashing. If you really believe he is bad because of that, dude, give up, you're not goin anywhere.

He was a pioneer* of tracing.

He also arranged the subjects himself.

No I dislike those polish guys

It's just it's not the same since he was the first dude to ever do it.

He has rough work that shows it was much more than just set things up randomly and then paint what the mirror saw.

I respect vermeers work and will still appreciate it even though he didn't do it by hand no scope etc. Even sargent used a plumb line

True, but now its hard to tell how much skill he actually had. If any other old master had access to a similar device would their paintings have been better?

The way I see it, Vermeer's works are now closer to being color photographs than what most would consider a painting. He just used oil and canvas instead of film.

>True, but now its hard to tell how much skill he actually had.
Nope, same as he always had. Just look at his paintings, they're really gorgeous and his use of a particular aide with creating the drawing doesn't take away from that.

>If any other old master had access to a similar device would their paintings have been better?
No, they would've been different.

Epic. Nice to see the old masters finally get slammed.

It's just one old master, and showing his method isn't slamming him. /ic/ needs to grow out of this "omg u cheated you can't make art that way" mindset.

>Have you seen this documentary?
>I think it's great!

I have just watched it.

Well I think it was a pleasure to watch. But not many things are happening. There is this guy that is able to spend a lot of money in recreating the Vermeer's working environment.

Also we're not sure that Vermeer really used that little mirror.

Take for example kim jung gi. Maybe someone could find a trick to paint on walls like him. But that doesn't mean there aren't people like kim being able to do that without any sophisticated tools.

>> No.1754883

Just paint a grid on your glasses.
That should do the trick.

>> No.1754953

>>1754883
or do something sensible like construct a net of strings on a painting frame and put it up over whatever you want to paint. That is, if you really want a grid and think putting one on your glasses is a good idea.

>> No.1755151

>>1754953

have you any idea of the details that had vermeer paintings? The grid works just for doing something similar, not to recreate an exact vermeer's painting. Just check all those little details on the clothes.
