All right, /ic/. Where in the fuck do I find a decent tutorial on how to draw a portrait?

Shove those "hurr durr draw a circle and then the lines and then just draw the fucking features hurr fucking derp" tutorials up your ASSES, I'm looking for a real tutorial that actualy teaches the whole structure behind the drawing and how to export all of the person's features.

No matter how hard I try, whenever I try to draw someone, it never actualy looks like the person. You can tell who it is, but things like the distance of the facial features, their format and the format of the face are always off. I have to keep correcting everything for hours, and even after that if stills looking bad.

inb4 someone recommends Loomis' racist facial shit.

It's proportions.
Loomis helps obviously but you'll have to struggle with your drawing anyway if you want a resemblance.

tone it down faggot, "draw a circle and then the lines and then just draw the fucking features" it's as deep as it goes for drawing faces, of course, if you don't have the fundamental knowledge to nicely pull that off, such as anatomy, structure, proportions and perspective, your drawings will look like shit, no matter if copied or from imagination.
Your main concern seems to be with likeness, which you can achieve with a lot of thorough meassuring to deliver accurate spatial relaionships, but seeing how you reffer to construction methods I already can tell you are fairly new or a n00b failure.

For example, look at this abomination I just drew. It's my first attempt of drawing a portrait.

It looks nothing like her, but no matter how hard I look at it, I can't tell what it is that it makes it look so bad. I only realised how bad it looked AFTER I did the shading, so I took a lot of time redrawing and fixing the proportion by using numeral photos of her (really, it looked much, much worse before).

I know the mouth is off, but it's because I had to erase it and redraw so many times that I don't give a fuck anymore. Even so, it has little to do with the awfulness of the drawing.

Please, enlighten me with criticism.

It seems a pretty good likeness for the quality of your drawing. I mean, your drawing itself isn't good, but obviously it is your first one, that's not surprising. It looks to me like you just need to practice more, to be able to draw better first. You're not going to go from having no drawing skill to being able to capture someone's likeness in a portrait very quickly. Your drawing skill must improve first. So I wouldn't get worked up about it, just practice.

Why would someone as terrible as you completely disregard Loomis? He might not teach how to capture a perfect likeness in portraits, but that's the least of your problems.

To tell the truth, this is supposed to be a birthday gift for my girlfriend. She doesn't draw anything, so her standarts are pretty low. She calls the shitty sketches I draw out of boredom during class the "cutest and most perfect things ever".

The things is her birthday is TODAY, and I only started to draw this shit like, 3 days ago and I have no experience in drawing portraits like this, so this probrably made the drawing look worse.

So, the real question is.. should I give her this?

When drawing realism from a reference, it's literally just observation. Slow down, try to avoid symbol drawing, and check angles constantly. The better you get the more relationships you'll become aware of. It's really something that just needs practiced, no tutorial is just going to give this to you.

you said yourself that it looks like an abomination, and that is you looking at it, the person who drew it. Imagine how much worse it looks to anyone else. It's never a good idea to give drawings or paintings away as presents unless you are really good.

Sure, the person who receives the gift will most likely be polite and act like they really appreciate it, but it's still gonna look like shit, no matter how little they know about art.

This right here
It's a course in chiaroscuro applied to drawing portraits but like any other technique can be used to draw anything
You've probably seen a few pages floating around in good info threads
Don't have a link for you but you ought to be able to find it

Because she wears glasses, she just took them off for that picture.
