Some of them are nice, but honestly it feels like you are trying a little too hard to be like Mullins. But if that is what you like to do, then fuck it, paint your heart out, buddy.

haha yeah

my current aim is to get into freelance before I turn 20 so I'm just trying out a lot of different things to see if I can find an aesthetic that I really respond to personally. Then develop that.

Using mullins as a springboard isn't too bad (I think). It's more about where I go/take it from here

Uploading something that is more tight maybe even "done" might upload some more sketches if there's interest.

>>1700587
I'm not sprias but thank you

oh dude shit im so sorry. you are acidenema. i look like a fucking moron now. sry. you arent even 20 yet? holy fuck, well great start you got there man. without knowing where you started i can tell you that you will be hireable-as-fuck by the time you are my ripe age (25, feels terrible man).

and i dont see the mullins-wannabeism. i just see a very experimental painterly approach but quite stylized still, especially in your palette. definitely digging it. at some points your need to experiment and go banana shifts your image too much into the abstract realm for my liking, but i wouldnt encourage you to stop that, i think that kind of experimental shit is very very valuable. i do abstractish stuff all the time and it has helped me a great deal imo.

Not trying to say using him as a springboard is a bad thing, just saying their is more of him in your work than their is you.
>>1700581 for example is simply wonderful and I see less Mullins and more of your own.

Do you have a DA or a blog?

>> No.1700611

i do find them derivative like the other anon and i can see some drawing weaknesses especially in your heads. Also none of them are particularly exciting to me in terms of subject matter and composition, with little design. But i like your colours a lot, and you can render well. Overall i like these paintings and i think you are on the right path as long as you find your own groove.

i was about to say, lol. its a compliment though, i wish people would mistake my work for his too. youre doing something right then.

also i agree with the mullins influence but so many people start off looking mullinsy and then find their own voice after experimentation. i think mullins' methods are very prone to finding new ways to do things.

also the sketches are really great, i love how youre doing your textures. i might try to paint more like that.

>>1700600

i agree with finding your own groove. i don't mean to push the comparison but i do think sprias would be a good person to talk to or look at. or looking at who he's looking at would be even better. i'm not very good myself but i think i can say that.

also don't sweat trying to look different for now you're still nailing things down. it'll come on its own i think.

Don't be bummed out by being older than me you have something I can only get with time (life experience) something that I think/feel is more valuable when it comes to art

>>1700604
Yeah I see what you mean, maybe the inspiration for the painting is just a source you don't know? Influence is really weird, right now I keep myself to the idea that my originality will survive no matter how closely I match my style to someone elses. Besides there's a lot of valuable knowledge in deconstructing your influences' influences, you usually end up back to nature

My blog is acidenema.tumblr.com
coming this june I'll have been at it for 2½ years

>>1700611
very fair critique, my drawing ability is very weak definitely something I need to sharpen up on, hiding behind fancy rendering methods will only get me so far heh

>>1700612
Loose painterly style is just to leave visible brush strokes when you turn the form. It could be described as
Step 1. Make weird brush strokes in directions of forms
2. There is no step 2 you just stop when it starts to look ok.

Studying classical painting approaches help out a bunch hmm. Try going to http://goodbrush.com/ and go to the misc section. Painting information is a document describing John Singer Sargents methods. 9 pages very dense information very good information (imo) also >>1700617 the whole premise is to start without ego and see what works and what doesn't, I'm not engineering a new method I'm tinkering with existing ones.

Here's the closest I have to a demonstration, a study from life I did last year

>>1700635
I've never talked to sprias but I can understand the comparison, I'm looking forward to which path he takes his work

What's happening in this one? Looks sort of like a painting of some ancient people. Looks really cool
