Hello /ic/. I recently found a website showing me a sketch of a man sitting on a chair. It told me to draw it with a pencil but the problem was that the picture was upside down and i had to draw it that way. So a few minutes ago i finished it. it took me like an hour to do it and here is the result. Please rate my work and help me get better ^^

The sticky at the top of the page has all the resources you need to begin.

Why do people copy this illustration so much, rather than just applying the concept to a photo?

Oh yeah i've seen that but i was bored to read anything. I just wanted to draw something ^^

I don't know about others. I am a newbie and this the guy who made that site instructed me to draw that picture and so i did. I have no idea on how to draw :/

It's the illustration provided by the "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" book.

They chose it because it is simpler than a photograph and somewhat abstract. They did that so students don't get caught up on the THIS IS A REAL THING and instead focus on accurately analyzing and copying the lines that they see.

If you don't want to learn and just want to make pretty pictures to post on deviantart and get the adoration of teenyboppers and edgy teenagers then go take a look at books by Christopher Hart. If you actually want to learn how to draw, read the sticky.

If you want to draw, you have to copy a lot of pictures and real life stuff, do it a lot of times and study a lot m8

Then get the fuck out of here. You're going to need to put in a bit more effort if you want to get substantial advice and criticism. People here take art seriously and won't give two shits about your first sketch. Try to actually read the sticky (it's really not that fucking hard), draw from observation, and come back when you're 18.

>just say i need more practise before i start posting here

the problem isn't you in specific. the problem is all the people like you who come here and make threads, asking us to spoonfeed them everything we know instead of just taking a look at the sticky and just starting with something.
you see, as a beginner you have so many easily detectable mistakes that it would be a complete waste of time to ask anyone what you are doing wrong because you should easily be able to see that yourself. not to mention that we have a draw thread and sketchbook thread and an anime thread where people are suppossed to post their work. we dont need total beginners that constantly make new threads and expect special treatment. /ic/ is elitist for a good reason and /ic/ needs to stay elitist. it shouldnt end up like reddit where anyone can post their horrible art and expect to get positive feedback. this board is for those people who are at least somewhat serious about getting better and thus needs to stay elitist.

especially since we already introduced things like the sticky and updated rules. the board is slow enough as it is. we don't need and we dont want people making threads about where to start(because sticky), any form of requests for free work(because we are not /r/ and it's in the rules), any requests for tattoo ideas (because that's what your tattooist's job is and that's what he gets paid for).

maybe we need to update the sticky a bit. the information in the sticky could be better and while we do have the sticky, it just doesn't keep people from making the same threads over and over again.

lolno. That's the worst thing I've ever heard. Go fuck yourself.

"Don't post here until you're drawing on a concept art level."

You sound like a hipste babby child.
