Sciele weirded me out at first but now I really dig his work, I can see why she wanted me to look into his style even though I misinterpreted her message. What made me feel a bit bad was when I was throwing out all of my old highschool art and papers and I found a guide packet that was a bunch of pages from Burn Hogarth books. Even though she was crazy and stole artwork from some students it seemed she did know her stuff. I regret not trying to be more serious with art in high school.

Those are nice drawings, which means there are only two possibilities: either you picked up fundamentals without trying to, or you copied those two drawings from the work of some other artist who has strong fundamentals.

It's possible to learn to copy well without really picking up any fundamental drawing skills, but it's not possible to draw well from imagination without fundamentals.

I don't think this is 100% true, even when I'm always learning and practicing the fundamentals I think people CAN be good at drawing without having knowledge about Loomis. Consciously or unconsciously, some people figure out things in their brain that help to be good at drawing without the specifically reading fundamentals, I don't know if it's related to your observation ability or something like that but I'm sure there is people able to do that kind of stuff.

if you mean people can draw well without having read "Figure Drawing For All It's Worth", then sure. If you mean people can draw well without having some basic conception of linear perspective, proportion, anatomy, and the other fundamentals of drawing, then no. That's why they're called "fundamentals."

it doesn't always have to be construction, you can train your eyes to always look at good proportion. I can draw a detailed eye instead of constructing the whole face then proceed to draw another eye, I can immediately tell if I placed the other eye too far or too near then fix it, then proceed with other parts so on and so forth.
