But that's the problem with the hugbox attitude that is so ingrained into Deviantart, no matter how nicely you put it they see anything less than dick-sucking as trolling or being mean. DA culture revolves around protecting fragile egos and immature highschooler mentalities.

This. Ive watched deviantart since the god damn beginning and there is no saving it. Ive seen plenty of artists who went over TEN years there with no improvement because of the DA culture. Ive seen many in the past who to help, but the vast majority will just scream "muh style", "ur trolling", "no critique" , "im popular, fuck you", and a million other excuses. But that's implying that I'm not? As a veteran AA'er, I can say that a lot of us start out as complete shit, but we're trying our hardest to get better. I don't really understand what's wrong with selling work to an audience that will buy it, regardless of whether or whether not the piece in its entirety is anatomically correct. And through improvement, that past piece will still be there, still be an object of criticism.
If people will buy it, it will be sold. I don't see how that makes us scum.

the number of people who aren't god like at drawing and have made careers out of it is not so bad. Like, typical deviant-art quality artists. Sure they might not be ridiculously rich doing it, but if they are making a living, who gives a shit? There are so many fields to integrate your art into, and so many ways to make a profit, plus art school (depending if it's not entirely shit) teaches you some fundamentals/puts you in an environment where you have to get shit done and become a little better out of it.

I mean, your example is pure shit because the guy who goes to art school even if he sucks, likes to draw, where as engineering might be boring as fuck... like it's not that hard you just need practice practice practice with whatever you do. LOL

>Work on your hands

>Excuse me?

>yes

>That's just how the pose works

>But with each progression your hiding more and more of the hands

>Uh. that's just how the pose works. Oh, and the other two are irrelevant because they are years old.

>So comparison isn't relevant?

>Look, I dont think you know what you're talking about. The two other pieces are irrelevant because I've OBVIOUSLY improved since those.

>I was just talking about how you need to work more on the hands area since you're using a meme that depicts comparison and progression of one's skill after time on a piece. I won't deny you improved on some aspects but you leave others hanging and even leave them to deteriorate which in this case are the hands which you draw less of. And even if you improved, it doesnt make you impervious to suggestion and comments that are not praise. So please calm down.

and she then goes to hide the comments and block me. notice that i tried to come off as calm and as rational as possible while saying those. i did not use any insults nor did i name call and she doesnt really give any justification and hides the comments instead.also i never brought people to spam her or anything, another anon suggested that. i merely brought this subject of dA being hard to accept feedback as a discussion.

It's just that white Americans don't like to feel bad, but are ok with everyone else feeling like shit. Example, they have no issue with openly criticizing the culture of others or an entire people, but when it comes to them, you have to care about _their_ feelings.

For example, I have had European and Asian teachers be honest with me. Like, completely, honest. On the flipside I have had one white America teacher who is honest with me in like all of my art school life. Of course when you are doing something right they will laud you for it, but there's no pussyfooting around what they are tying to say.

I have seen too many white Americans, especially white American women, talk one way in someone's face and then talk something nasty and fierce behind that same person's back. I find it to be insincere. I'd rather the person just be honest, because then I feel that I can trust that person. This is, imo, one of the biggest problems with white American culture, and it's something that white American women do super often. Unless you do this then you will be labeled a bitch, scary, or just mean. This even though you are probably more sincere about it then the other person who is perpetrating a fraud.

>>1680527
>Not so subtle racism: The post
>Also, how would you know someone's race on the internet?

Because only a white American would label an honest critique on them or recognizing race as being 'racist.' Yet when they do it it's not racism at all, but them just being 'honest.'

Defensiveness has nothing to do with race and everything to do with personal insecurities and sensitivities. If it is more prevalent in America, I would attribute it to bullshit like political correctness and female gender roles that demand society censor all potential meanness so that no one's feet are trampled on.

Are you talking about honest feedback in an adult setting (college) or in public schooling? It actually makes a huge difference, because what comes out of your professor's mouth is not held to the same standard as your high school art teacher's. Public school teachers can get canned for some really trivial shit (like their purely-educational honest opinion that was misinterpreted) that a college professor would just say "deal with it" about. I don't believe professors should skirt criticism to spare feelings, but then again, my ideal teacher is Severus Snape.

But you know what? If you don't feel like you're getting the most out of your education you can change that. Instead of passive aggressively whining about your teachers on 4chan where most of them will never LEARN from their mistakes, why not bring it up? Ask - no - DEMAND that they tell you the truth. I can't see why any teacher would refuse to offer a non-sugarcoated opinion if it was what the student really wanted. If your teacher still can't refrain from the urge to pat your butt after that, maybe she's not seeing a problem, which could be good or bad. Good in that maybe you're too harsh on your work, or bad in that you got saddled with an unskilled teacher.
