>> No.1620382

>>1620362
Comparing it to the size of the shadow cast by the wire, that drawing is very small. Its also because of this that your values look grainy.
Draw so that it takes up no less than 4/5 of an A4 page. Gestures are important and one way to have them flowing naturally is to use the whole length of the arm, which having a larger canvas would provide
This would also put your line stability to the test, it would allow for more detailed shadow shapes and less grainier values and in general, more control so you could fully develop your idea on the page.
There is nothing to lose (apart from paper) and it is good practice to work large.

>> No.1620391

>>1620382
It takes up almost half of an A3 page, mang. I think the grainy quality is caused by using a B3 pencil, and the paper coming from a pound shop. Not to mention me being a shitter.

That being said, from now on I will put the board vertically and try to take up the whole of it. I was kinda afraid of doing that, for whatever reason, but your argument makes sense.

>I can't even see where I've gone wrong with the proportions. I'm not even sure if I know what do you mean by orientation.

Well, the head on the girl his hueg. her feet and the axe guy's head are teensy. What I mean by orientation should probably have been angles. Like, I don't have the reference, but I seriously doubt her hips were at that extreme of an angle. Probably legs and arms are off too. take the photos, (or better yet, scan them) and put them into photoshop at 50% opacity over the ref image and you'll see where you went wrong.

For 3 weeks in, you look like you've done this some before, because you're not drawing the flat, contour-type drawings most newfags (incl me) started out with and you're trying to copy the areas of light and shadow. Work on your accuracy now . I actually subscribed to the proko figure drawing course. There's some premium content, like the latest video on the lay in that is really helpful, but the free videos cover most of it.

My last drawing somehow got deleted, so I made a new one.

I tried to make the eyebrows thick like a demon, but couldn't figure out what to do on the left, and I'm not sure if the right is even good enough. How can I improve the nose, should I remove the outlines? And last, can someone shape the head for me? like what part of the face should be darker or lighter. I wanted the light to come from the top right, in front of the face.

It isn't just the cranium, but that's all you can properly address at this stage given the medium used.

Last time I was told that I was using way too much white, so I tried to balance it out.

I haven't used any blending tool, I did use the eraser on the background to create the respective out of focus effect, that lower muddy part on the background is going to be a crowd.

- Work on forms and the associated shading. The dress is flat as fuck. Even a brilliant white dress will have shade to it, and the way it interacts with the ground will define its shape. At the moment it's not even a cone, it's a paper cut-out of a dress.
- Don't worry about drawing every last flower, draw the ones in the foreground and abstract the further ones.
- Careful with that perspective, that road really bulges before disappearing behind the rock.

i would honestly encourage you to spend alot more time doing studies and less time creating. at the stage you are at anything you attempt will be turd polishing because there is no way you are going to create something other than a turd.

now i know tehmeh and his groupies would go "nonono you should ALWAYS be creative!" and i guess in a way they are right since it challenges your brain and gives you an idea of where you stand and where you are lacking, BUT if you care about fast progress, efficient learning and reaching a competitive level quickly i think you are wasting your time.

As far as design goes, you didn't even follow the fusion design. The face is completely different and he has 3 horns instead of 1.

Can't comment on art. I dislike when people make major changes to anatomy/design/whatever to make it more "realistic", but that's just me.

You need to think the shape of her head and face over again, now it looks very flat. Also push up the color range some, those tasty blues in the background should reflect on her skin. Make the shadows less saturated to pus up the vibrance of the skin, or maybe the other way around. Hair needs more flow to it, it doesnt work like curtains do.

I think it looks ok until you start adding color. Neither color nor shading is particularly bad, but I believe it could get better. the color choice is a bit boring, I would try to find more harmonized shades, and maybe break off with some contrast, but then again it could be personal style. With the rendering it's looks ok, but the mayor problem is that the light doesn't seem to have defined light sources, you kinda just see splashes of yellow light all over..

I'm no pro at rendering or color myself, but those are just a few thing that stood out to me.

Thanks! No, I rarely use a soft brush unless I want to do really small adjustments. As for color and blending, try to figure out the color palette in your mind and block in all the colors into the painting when you start. Then you can just pick the color straight from the canvas. My technique is about using only two tools, color picker and the brush. Just play around with the colors I guess, also studies and color theories can bring you a long way
