Filthy casual from /vp/ and /pol/ here, wondering if you guys would like to share any images of Kaiju or general big monsters that you've seen or made.

I drew this last night and had a lot of fun. The lines are rough but I left my decent eraser at uni.

Gonna dump some Mike Corriero, I'm not sure what /ic/'s collective opinion on him is.

Am I on the wrong board or is /ic/ just slow this time of day? I guess dead hours is dead hours everywhere.

I never liked /ic/s collective opinion.

However I always hated mike corriero.

I started studying 10 years ago, when he was the shit over at conceptart. My best friend and I always thought his shit looked so bland and boring. Even now a decade later, both me and my friends are working and I still haven't found anything to like about his art.

Maybe in 2023...

I get what you mean, a lot of them tend to look the same. That's probably why the first one I posted is a favourite: it's a bit different to the rest.

The demons he draws are his worst in my opinion.

While we're discussing monsters, which recent monster movie do y'all think has had the best designs?

I liked cloverfield but to me it looked too fragile and I don't think the gorilla-like standing made it look intimidating enough. I think it would have suited a more traditional Kaiju. I think pacific rim and troll hunter got it right.

Is there a name for this art style?

Battle: Los Angeles and its army of monsters recently struck me as progressive if only because their design fakes a humanoid body.

I've never gotten around to watching that, I might give it a look.

I think generally the more crustacean/shellfish style creatures, like in District 9, sell 'alien' well to me. Ones that are obviously based on deep sea animals too.

A few months ago I have come to enjoy the weirdest movies by ignoring both imdb and the individual movie's plot and simply sitting or standing there, awed and brain-addled by recognizing a part of how much thought went into the visualizations of ideas.

Come to think of it, I think I'll watch the new version of The Thing again. :)
