Hey guys. This is the first time I post here so sorry if I mess up.

I really need help on the bakground on this one, since there isn't really any reference for these kind of bakgrounds. I was thinking of doing some fisheye effect, but I'm quite new to drawing any kind of bakground so I need your help.

>> No.1541374

Just trace a background from the anime.

>> No.1541379

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is the architecture loosely based on Romanesque and Gothic architecture?

>> No.1541381

>>1541374
You wont learn anything from tracing, it takes no thought and it is not rewarding like actually constructing a world for your figure.

>> No.1541384

>>1541379
I have no idea really, I took some inspiration from the anime it's from, Shingeki no Kyojin, and slapped it on the bakground

>>1541374
I can't do that either since the anime doesn't use fisheye

>> No.1541395

I'm assuming you want to make the background look bubbled? If so, put contour lines in the shape of a sphere like earth's longitude and latitude lines. That will be your basic guide. Not sure if there's any software for it, but you can practice it fairly simply by hand by doing the old "checker pattern" art work where you would do a grid, draw something simple on it and fill in alternating blocks. Instead, put a circle in it and bend the lines to follow the contour of the circle.

Doing this with a full blown background is hard and required far more experience and skill than I have personally, but someone here may be able to give detailed assistance.

That's bad advice and you should feel bad

Your wrong. /ic/ now officially supports tracing and anime, especially tracing anime

So I tried doing what you said and it turned out pretty good! Thank you very much for the help!

..I gotta ask though. What the heck is actually happening here? How did she get there?
Why are we looking at her like that?

I dislike nonsense shots like these.

Also, because she's practically stuck in front of the background, without anything overlaying or interacting with her, or shadows(those might help later on though), so she doesn't really look part of the scene right now. Keep an eye on that.

>> No.1541572

>>1541566
Not the same anon but... I think she is just falling, that could be an okay panel in a comic.

I don't see what you mean by not being part of the scene (aside from looking less sketchy than the background)

>> No.1541576

>>1541572

She's not that much part of the scene because there's as of now, nothing that ties them together. As I said, this can still be fixed by good lighting and such, but it is sometimes better to have more ways than one.

So that makes it slightly feel like she is superimposed in the image, pasted on, which makes it look slightly flat.

I get what you mean when talking about a comic, but then you have other panels telling you what is going on. So yeah, it's tricky for a single illustration. The buildings around her don't seem like fairly tall buildings, so what is she falling from? A bird? A plane? Superman?

Some minor tweakage with the figure if you're going balls out with the perspective stuff: Enlarging her left arm would make it seem closer to the viewer. It looks a bit small. The grip she has on her other sword is weak. I'm not sure if that's intentional or not. If she is dropping the sword, why not have it already out of her hand? If not, have her grip it tighter.

She apparently has the same emotion about falling to her death as pouring herself a soda at the pizza place, or am I missing something about the character/scene?

>> No.1541849

OP here, I just wanna say that I appreciate all the critique you've given me, and I will listen to them!

>>1541780
She's actually not falling though! >>1541763 linked the opening to the anime she's from, and it should give you an idea of what's going on.

I was trying to make it look like she was doing almost like a twirl in midair, but I see I need to emphasize that more.

(also her emotions usually doesn't show that much in the anime, so I didn't want to go that much out of character)

>> No.1541860

You guys are making me want to watch Attack on Titans. Is it any good? I'm not hugely into anime, I just enjoy Cowboy Bebop and stuff. Think I could get into this?

Also is it on Youtube or would I need to pirate it? I'm going to check right now but I'd hate to find out that only the first half is up or something like that.

You're producing content that's a little ahead of your skill and it shows. You need to learn the fundamentals of perspective and construction using shapes and forms. You're anatomy is terrible and your character's gesture is lethargic. I understand that you might just want to make "cool anime art" but it will always look off until you do the work. I'm not sure what is going on with /ic/ right now but normally someone would be telling you to read the sticky and read a book or two.

>> No.1541937

>>1541933
I believe it's important to create finished pieces even when you're still in the beginner/intermediate phase.

one of the worst part about /ic/ is that people here emphasize "STUDIES AND THEORY" almost too much.
Too often you see people here who are stuck in a loop of "gotta do studies gotta do studies, anatomy, perspective, gesture studies gotta do them a lot so I'll be good more more more yeah naked faceless people are the best more give me more" and never actually create stuff with actual story and background and detail and shit.

I'm not saying that studying fundamentals etc is bad.
obviously it's really fucking important, but so is creating your own finished work.

who is to say that OP isn't already doing the things that you told him to do?

>>1541937
agreed

I like drawing figures as much as the next Anon, but you're spinning your wheels if you don't put it in context to something. I applaude the OP for trying to put together a whole piece, it does give something more for people to comment on than just the figure (ironicly, which is all that I did in my redline). Making a layout for a whole piece, the artist learns composition, perspective, and how the figure you've been doing so many doodles of fits into the space. Plus, the artist will learn how to draw more things that just a figure; buildings, trees, cars, bikes, etc.

Of course the piece will probably look like crap, there will be many mistakes, but hopefully Anon will learn at least what works and what doesn't and work on those things.

Granted, after I've said all this, I haven't drawn a serious environment in ages. But that's because I'm lazy. Don't be me. ;D

OP again.
I tried fixing the anatomy a bit by looking up references, but it's far from perfect-

I will also start studying anatomy, forms and perspective! I haven't really thought about going about studying drawing, I just drew whatever came to mind. I also think I needed to hear some critique, so I can get better! Thanks for helping me out.

(I won't change the background again though, but I will think more about what you've said until my next drawing)

You're like the 5th person that said this.

Is it possible to fast forward or skip episodes?

I actually fast forward through scenes sometimes. Also how good is crunchy roll for getting anime? I am tempted to sub but if you only get limited anime, than fuck that. i want mainstream and obscure shit and movies too.

>> No.1543543

>>1543541
I wouldn't really recommend fast forwarding or skipping episodes. (There is one recap episode you can skip, however.) Although it's definitely slow-paced at times, and gets a little too talky, it's still entertaining.

Except for one of the later episodes, which is practically all-talk.

Also, don't bother with Crunchyroll. Just download what you want from bakabt (search what you want using Google so you don't need to use an account), or download from nyaa.eu.
