soup, /ic/
So I've been a traditional media lover ever since forever. Never been great at realism, and never went to art school or anything, but I definitely found my niche in the surreal/ strange/ crazy area as a hobby. I've never been a fan of digital art, but I bought a bamboo to give it a chance and hated it. Recently, I bought an HTC Flyer tablet and began doodling using Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. I gotta say, I didn't give digital at enough credit. This is my third digital piece on it and already I'm nearly on par with my prisma drawings. How did you in /ic/ get started and improve in digital art as opposed to traditional media?

bamboofag here. on my phone, so no examples, but I had an AutoCAD class and that's what started me on dig art. I had some great cad drafts, but I can't afford it on my home computer so I just started using GIMP and pirated shoop. Nice drawing, btw. You sure you aren't an art student?

'preciate it, and no, I'm not an art student.I did work in a tattoo shop for a couple years, though.

Started learning more about illustration and freelance work, so I bought a bamboo and got into it for a while. Once I started to figure out how to do real work with it I decided I dont like digital work. Its nice for working with clients, but digital art will never be as fulfilling as physical media in my opinion. Why spend 30 hours on a really nice digital painting when you can spend 30 hours on a really nice oil or acrylic painting? Not hating though, it has a use, just not my thing. Though it is great for sketching out ideas quickly... I do a lot of color studies for paintings with my tablet.

A tip for OP: Your digital style is painfully "digital" looking, Unless that's what you want, consider the principles of working with prisma colors or paint in terms of color and value. Instead of black, use dark values of color and limit your palette.

well, I use prismas normally and I don't have any digital experience so for me, this is the learning curve like you have with any new medium. I'm mostly experimenting at this point. I get what you mean, too about spending so much time on digital vs traditional. I felt the same way until I realised that I didn't have to use up all my expensive materials to experiment, and layers are infinitely useful. but you're right, the satisfaction isn't quite there

I know that feel.
>I wish I could hang up some of my digital work on my wall
>printing is not an option because fuck that
>dont know how to use a brush or paints
It would probably end up shit anyway, digital tools are life (and time) savers
