The first GameMaster thread gave me a good idea for a daily sketch game for /ic/. It would be sort of a crawler-rpg where you go from your hometown to destination x. There will be no story, and no recurring characters, no dialogue. It’s a solo journey and you make up the story yourself if you like. I’m merely going to be playing the role of the ‘tutorial guidebook’.
The premise is that you set out to a destination with your sketchbook and a weapon. At the end of each day, I’ll give you a log of the major event that happened each day and three choices of how to go about documenting this into your sketchbook (digital or trad). The idea of the game is to not only get you drawing, but to get you doing research on your own. I’m not here to teach you how to draw, although some of the challenges will be thinly veiled academic exercises.
There will be no commitment, no mandatory posts or tripcodes. With this format, people shouldn’t feel discouraged to join late, because there’s nothing they would have missed. The events vary in difficulty and have no correlation to one another, as far as any type of story goes.
Every Monday we will enter a new location with new enemies, new atmosphere, and (somewhat) new events.

Example of a daily update:
(*environment data such as location, time of day, and rough idea of the scenery would go here*)
>You are ambushed by x! You have 3 options:

1. Attack
>draw the before, during, or after battle

2.Flee
>draw yourself fleeing or otherwise escaping the threat!

3.Recruit / neutralize
>draw yourself earning the trust/making amends or bribing the threat.

And that would be about it.
I will allow one pet at a time which doesn't have to be represented in your drawings, but for fun, you could have your pet/ friend fight for you in battles. For the most part I would just pop in and give the event. I would like my role to be as minimal as possible; after all I’m just the tutorial guide.

The reason I’m posting this test thread is because I want to see if there’s any interest for this type of thing. Also I NEED opinions on the proper pacing of something like this. I have a feeling if I do daily updates some people will miss out and feel frustrated. Also with daily updates I think people will rush to get them done. We all have lives so I don’t want to have some crazy fast paced thing going on here, and I want to see putting forth big efforts.

Discuss. Opinions, ideas, whatever. If this topic blows up with good responses, I’ll delete it and replace it with the day 1 events of the journey.

I actually like this idea. I can't speak for everyone in terms of pacing, but 3-4 days seems like long enough to get something done, but not so long that everyone is waiting around for the next topic.

>> No.1511103

Is this gonna be the same as the lat threads that tried this? Everyone gets going then nothing gets posted again after the first day?

Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Something like that. I don't want this to overbear some peoples schedules. It would be just a supplement.

I am not him/her, so no. I wanted to wait a bit since the last thread so people hopefully would have forgotten. He had some serious planning issues going on there, among other things.

Go for it im definitely on board.
3-4 days seems a bit long for me, but then again I got tons of free time and study art 8h a day.

>> No.1511139

I'm down.

3 days seems more than enough.

Especially for simple subjects like these.

I just want to get as many people participating as possible, so people that don't see the challenge on monday get to see it on tuesday. Every friday would be a 'special event' that would include enough detail for something that is a bit more refined.

Each challenge will have enough info to provide you with 2-4 hours of drawing, research time not included. And keep in mind every day will have three choices, and there's no limit to how many you can do per challenge. 3 choices at 2-4 hours each is 6-12 hours per challenge.

Of course if there is an in between day I could give an event on the fly. I have enough content to keep this going for months. I want these challenges to supplement your drawing regiments, not BE them, as with the GM's thread. This game is much different.

Sounds interesting enough. Some sequential work could be really interesting.

I think updating twice a week sounds fair for everyone. Three updates per week at most.

daily updates are a great idea, imo.
last drawthread frustrated me because i wanted to participate, but i have a job that takes a lot of my time so i couldn't play along because i hated seeing the game progress without me.

if you want this to be a sketch-thing then one day is a good timeline. i think three days would be way too long and people would lose interest.

>> No.1511223

i'm interested, maybe
i agree with the anons saying 2-3 updates per week. because we all have things going on, so this gives us a bit of maneuverability, but isn't so infrequent as to lose interest
why don't you open this up, op. when the idea's first in the air it gets the most excitement, let's take advantage and dive right in

>> No.1511239

>>1511223
I'm writing the op posts right now and streamlining the terms a bit. Expect the topic within the next hour or so. Probably two hours because of food time.

>>1511213
You're being inconstant; on one hand you say it moved too fast for you, and on the other you say three days is too long.

There will be one free day in between events. So really it's two days. I would rather have a game that is too slow paced rather then fast. This board is slow so it makes sense to have this match the tempo.

More ideas/ opinions? Topic will be up within the next hour or so.

no, i am not.

the thread i tried to participate in had a few challenges posted in one day. which is too little time, as i said.

>> No.1511255

>>1511246
Alright, well I definitely won't be doing multiple challenges per day.

>> No.1511270

Z, do you think you'd be able to also drop some links and tutorials fro each new event/challenge?

For example, if one of the events means going into a new town, could you provide some tutorials on background building and perspective? Or does that go against the research-on-your-own deal.

>> No.1511327

>>1511270
I'll be doing what I think is necessary. Challenges I think are easy or self explanatory will get less links/ guidance than a special event would.

>> No.1511345

Imo, i think it's a fun idea to have characters because it adds a bigger feeling of the whole RPG like context and i think it should be encouraged to interact with other players because i'm sure that'd be fun.

i still want to anonymously drawRP with /ic/ so much you don't even know
